I can see why it wasn't used.  Too (original) Flash Gordon-ish.  And the 60s go-go boots don't help.

Princess Leia seems incredibly bored by swinging on a rope and shooting a blaster one-handed, but I like the Stormtroopers at the bottom looking up her skirt.

I have an old paperback version of "The Shining" with that yellow poster as the cover.

Her face looks like a case of RBF, and I'm sure moviegoers would have been disappointed that she didn't show that much cleavage in the actual film.

The Shining poster is both iconic and not actually that good.  The only original that seems better than what they took is The Queen.  The one they took looks ugly and the Westminster skyline doesn't come across.  Inception may be better in the original but I don't care because the movie isn't worth it.

Just to compare....

And yeah, the "it may be happening right now" poster didn't see the opening titles....

Best? They're all awful except the Moon one. The unused Iron Lady and Jurassic Park posters are shiat.

I actually really like the Clockwork one. Reminds me of all the Panther/Sphere SF book covers from the 70's.

I can't argue with that description of the plot because I can't remember the plot.

I thought the one for Iron Lady was going to be for The Devil Wears Prada.

I've always hated that Batman poster. Looks like a mouth with weird teeth to me.

I still maintain that the plot of MANOS would make a very creepy CALL OF CTHULHU RPG adventure, if
not an actual effective horror movie if made by someone with actual talent.

The Batman one makes sense.
Its larger than life. To big for the poster as the edges of the bat symbol are cut off.
That's how it felt coming out. Just a big, big film.

God yes.  So much of the problem with that film isn't the ideas as it is how they were put across.  Bad acting, questionable camera work, hilariously bad scene/dialogue mismatching ("it's getting late" when the sun is high in the sky), technical limitations (camera could only shoot 30 seconds at a time), complete lack of editing, bad pacing (probably related to the editing), and pointless scenes (also relating to the editing).  I'm not saying the script was Oscar-worthy, but if you'd had real actors with a real budget performing it would have been better than some of the dreck I've seen in theaters (or really, late night on TBS).

Wow!  I'm not alone in thinking that there was a good movie, or at least a half-hour creepy anthology TV episode in there trying to get out.

And yet, Tarentino is said to have loved it.

I get the impression that when Tarantino watches a film he sees the ideas behind them as much as the execution.  He's that kind of crazy cerebral.

Ugliness of the final poster aside, the original tells you nothing. The Iron Lady. "I hope you know what this movie's about already." It may as well just be the name of the movie on a poster.

My biggest problem with the yellow THE SHINING poster is that it makes the nothing word "The" too dominant.

I can't really remember it either, but I remember seeing that poster afterwards and thinking it was totally wrong.

I've got an even more valuable Star Wars poster. Long before the release of Return of The Jedi, LucasFilm produced a few one-sheets that were, uh, a bit premature with the title.

I have an original, Revenge of The Jedi poster.

Interesting that you mention this....I think suffered major SAN loss while watching Manos

I was confused by the comment "Micheal Keaton as Batman, not one, not two, but three times"

Were they talking about the poster they showed? It looks like Batman once, then Nicholson as Napier, and Whul as Alexander Knox.
Which poster had three Batmen?

yes, the solid bat emblem one is a better poster, but I got confused by their criticism of the unused poster.
