It's probably very difficult for these types of stores, I doubt the police actually provide any protection or investigate robberies because they personally don't like "stoners".

Judging from the number of stories in recent months of people robbing their own place of business, I have to consider:

Albuquerque police say a robbery at a smoke shop on Menaul at Wisconsin ended with one person dead, but investigators won't say if that person was an employee or the robber.

Oh come on!  That little detail will decide how I feel about this whole thing!!!!

With fewer and fewer people smoking today, due to health issues and social concious issues, how much money could a Smoke Shop possibly have?

Is not as if they're raking in the bucks

Like anything else, there's usually a market for the enthusiast products you can't get at Walmart or gas stations. They'll have higher end products, weird flavored stuff, etc.

And that's not counting the vaping shops. It seems like those damn things have sprung up EVERYWHERE. I can't fathom how the area can support as many vapor shops as have opened up in the last few months... even one particular strip mall has two of the damn things.

Update. Dumb fark decided to threaten a bunch of people with guns, and got what he deserved. And now the taxpayers don't have to pay for a trial or a prison cell, just a refrigerated slab at the morgue for a few days. Couldn't have worked out any better.

Not that I'm lighting a candle for the armed robber, but you are just a little bit too happy to know someone died. Things could have gone much worse, but this is still not a happy ending. You don't need to celebrate it like a touchdown.

In other words, a reckless armed vigilante decided to play judge, jury and executioner and deemed that robbery warrants the death penalty.

Well, the ideal solution would have been Mr. Armed Robber just filled out a bunch of job apps that day instead of threatening to kill other people. Now, obviously I'm happy that the overwhelming majority of people go through life that way. But on the occasion that some subhuman piece of shiat DOES decide to commit armed robbery, the best possible solution is for "it" to get shot and killed at the scene with no other casualties. So yeah, I'm happy that this episode of "society rejects an animal" turned out the best way it could have.

Take the second best alternative, the guy gets tackled and the weapon taken away from him and he gets arrested. Now he goes to jail, which we pay for. We put him in prison, which we pay for. Prison is torture for him. When he gets out, he's got about a 70% of doing it again in three years. All that money, all that torture and misery, just we can do it again later! It's pointless, expensive, and NO ONE, not even the robber, benefits from it.

No, given the situation of "armed robbery", this IS the best possible solution. Maybe if we had a real justice system or something that might not be the case, but as it is, I firmly stand by the idea that this was best solution for everyone involved.

That's nice, but why do you have to sound so gleeful about it? It's just creepy how you use terms like "it" and "animal" to describe another human being, criminal or not. It tells me that there's a threshold you have. There's a certain point where people stop being people to you. And I find that disturbing. It's not a good trait for someone to have.

I would think that cops love stoners. Is there an easier way to inflate your cop job-performance numbers?

I'm a regular customer at this shop. I buy all my e-cig juice and hardware there. Yes, they do sell pot smoking supplies, and a few brands of domestic cigarettes, but the bulk of their business is for vapers like me and hookah smokers. (There's a hookah lounge next door that's run by the same company, AFAIK.) Id's say I've seen about as many middle-aged housewives and businessmen in there as I've seen stoners.

Although this robbery was in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday, this shop is open until midnight on weekdays and 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. In the past I've wondered how frequently they get held up, since there's often just a single employee working behind the counter. And yes, I am usually carrying a concealed firearm when I go there, especially late at night.

A defining trait of human beings is our social structures. This guy completely abandoned thousands of years of that social development. He acted like a dangerous animal, and he got treated like a dangerous animal. He chose to create a problem thats best solution was "he dies", and he got his solution. Cigars and beers all around, the world worked as it should!

Is it possible that you have a point where you stop considering human beings to be worthy of the title "human being", and our two points are just at different places on the scale? If you read a story about a suicide bomber accidentally setting off his bomb early and wiping out a terrorist training camp, do you crack a smile?

Sorry, but if someone threatens me with a gun, there's a good chance I will return the favor. And it won't be recklessly.

Update: It was an employee, and the robber is dead. This article calls it a robbery gone wrong, but I'd say it worked out pretty well for everyone except the douchebag robber:

This looks trollish, but I'll bite.

So there is a simple concept... clear and present danger.   We have an inalienable right to  life.  This guy pointed a lethal weapon at an innocent civilian and threatened to kill him.   The threat of lethal force against an innocent in any sane mind is grounds to use lethal force to protect that innocent.   This is the basis of self defense, the right to live.

If the perp pointed a weapon at you and threatened to kill you, I'm certain you wouldn't mind if his head was given a JFK haircut.  Hypocrite.

fark him.  He threatened people minding their own business with death for material gain.  He had probably done it before.  Would probably do it again.  This is nothing but a positive result.
