I wish all boxing was that entertaining.

I guess the "instant" replay guy was caught off guard also.

I don't really follow boxing, but I always assumed a 'knockout' meant that the guy was, you know, knocked out, as in unconscious.  He seemed to fall down, then got right back up, that counts as an instant win for the other guy?

Hey, sometimes those punches to the shoulder can really clear out the cobwebs.

Knockout (KO) = Unconscious or unable to get up, etc. (Usually unconsciousness, dizziness, or just in too much pain to move -- liver shots suck.

Technical Knockout (TKO) = Called off due to inability to protect oneself, getting knocked down three times in a round, corner, physician, fighter, calls it off, something along those lines.

So this would be a poorly called TKO after a poor dive. I hope they all got paid well.

He took a dive. A hit to the shoulder? And he sucks mat? WTF...ban him from boxing. Someone is getting paid.

I love when one commentator faciously asks if maybe Zehlie is the strongest man in the world, and we just don't know it?  And the other guy answers it with a resounding, "no!"a

And, BTW, shouldn't they be referring to him as "Zang?"

I'm glad I read the comments before watching a 7:00 video expecting to see someone's block getting knocked back into last week.

I don't speak that language at all, but that commentary had me in tears. It's always awesome when even the announcers realize what they're watching is complete bullshiat/ridiculous.

Also, if there are any Boxing people out there, that one punch the asian dude landed that went through his block and landed square in the middle of his forehead, would that have scrambled something and basically put him on auto pilot? Because the asian guy didn't land another punch until it hit his shoulder, and that looked like it mucked up his center of gravity sending him into the ropes and bouncing him face first into the mat.

I've never been punched before so I'm a poor judge of what kind of power is being tossed around in these matches.

The referee too.  The way he waved him off, there is not way he wasn't in on it.

I recommend a few basic-level acting workshops prior to the next dive.

Yes, that's why boxing is dying. But, did you know that MMA has flatlined, too? Yep. Seems that, just like with boxing, if you can't find some solid heavyweights, well, you can't stay in business.

Yeah, that was the best part of the clip for me - listening to the announcers struggle to do their jobs, even as it's obvious that the guy dived faster and harder than Greg Louganis on Jupiter, tied to a bungee.

I wonder how much his mother/brother/father/aunt/dog bet on him dropping in the first.

No. Your forehead can take a pounding, which is why we lower our chins and kinda keep the forehead out there a bit. If you have to get hit in the head, that's where you'd want the punch. Can the punches still ring your bell a bit? Yeah definitely, but that wasn't a power shot, he didn't even get pushed back, and his feet are fine until his next step which almost looks like he's preparing to go down. An absolute dive.

They already have their cut.. but, in this case, when it is just sooo bad, they might ask for a bigger cut.

"Ya see?  Dis a joke."

That pretty much sums it up.  The funny thing is that I watched an ep of Masters of Sex in which a very long heavyweight fight on television, and discussions of all the psychology and gamesmanship that go into it served as a parallel story line throughout the episode.  Then to watch this just seemed incomprehensible.

ManateeGag: I wonder how much his mother/brother/father/aunt/dog bet on him dropping in the first.

It was almost as if he wanted to expose the corruption that had clearly inundated the event.  Sure, he could try to report it ahead of time, but then the fight gets canceled and there's no evidence.  Instead he lays this stinking log on TV and it is too real to ignore.

Maybe.

UFC has flatlined, i think MMA as a whole sport is growing. More and more regional shows. I agree though the HW division is one more casual fans tend to gravitate to. The problem both sports face is that its hard to put a lot of money behind a fighter and grow their name because any night they are 3 seconds away from getting knocked out or sumbitted and then they are yesterdays news. Boxing solved this with corruption, several brands that tried to compete with UFC learned this the hard way (lets put all our eggs in the Kimbo basket shall we). UFC is slowly discovering it and trying to find a way to combat it. There is a reason cyborg isnt in the ufc fighting rousey and its not the roids.

Kimbo's reality check was just about the most ridiculous knockout I've ever seen outside of a Steven Seagal movie, except I'm fairly certain that was 100% real.

OK, I'll play devil's advocate.  If I were attending as a medical staff member, I'd be concerned.  These guys have had plenty of un-diagnosed TBI and concussions as well as some minor hemorrhages over their careers.  For all I'd know, that right to his head that started this whole episode might have jarred loose that one synapse that was holding him together.  Prime of your life to Muhammad Ali-ville in 1 nanosecond.

But yeah, kinda looked like a dive.

2014-08-11 11:42:10 AM
I think the commentator got it right.  The guy was never hit on the head.  It was a decent hit to his left shoulder.  They guy has a glass shoulder.

Let me correct myself, the first left might have jarred that synapse.  The second left to the shoulder, not so much.

He got a free Swapmeet Louis franchise at his local flea market for taking that dive. He'll never be able to box competitively again now that everyone knows about that glass shoulder. I was a little suspicious after the ref counted him out in Cantonese.

The announcers are hilarious.

There is also a rather sensitive nerve that traverses the collar bone from the shoulder to the neck.  They already said that the Olympian was a knock out kind of guy.  Knockout artist?

You could say the same about some of the most famous boxing fights. If you hit someone in the sweet spot, fighters tend to get 'knocked out' for 10 seconds.

2014-08-11 01:33:25 PM
the ref stops the fight because he sees the guy is flopping. if the fight keeps going the guy may keep doing it and it is even more shameful to the sport.
