I really liked him as the pompous junkie jazzman in Inside Llewyn Davis (which, over time, I'm realizing is actually one of the Coen Bros best movies ever).   That's the best thing he's done lately, by far.

The Coen Bros should be contractually bound by any deal they receive to finance one of their movies to find something for John Goodman to do in it.  John Turturro, too.  If they show up in a Coen Bros movie, something good's about to happen.

I think he forgot what it became in it's later years.

I was forced to watch that screeching harpy when I was a kid. It was horrible. Tom Arnold though the best part of True Lies.

Roseanne was the least talented person on the show. only if someone can tell me she picked all the cast and crew, writers, agents, and bologna sandwich caterer will i giver her some credit and say she had the skill to pick the people around her who would make her a star.

Best part of the show was the Halloween episodes and the throwaway line "Where the hell have *you* been?" when the first Becky came back.

Roseanne was a really good sitcom until Roseanne started exercising more control over it. Even her character worked well as long as she was strictly acting it, not writing the part. Goodman and the others wouldn't have been nearly as good if they didn't have her caustic persona to play off of.

Once she started digging her tendrils into the stories themselves, though, it was pretty much doomed.

agreed. the first couple of years it might have been the best example of a struggling middle class family ever on tv

So now we're just green-lighting old Rosanne episodes?
Way to stay current, Fark.

For shiats and giggles, here's The Independent taking Barr down a notch back in 1997 for the abysmal treatment she gave the show's last season:

Roseanne Barr the lottery loser of all time

Roseanne was awesome.  Period.
