There will be no checklist today.  No asking if we are sports entertained.  The pacedogs may even sit this one out.  Thoughts and prayers are with Kevin Ward's family today.

Why isn't this in the politics tab?

/seriously though, RIP Kevin Ward

Good idea and my thoughts are with everyone involved as well. I won't be around. Just not feeling it.

Especially if NASCAR lets Tony race. I'm out.

If he does, it will be because NASCAR (and the sponsors) need to judge how the fans (and other racers, for that matter) are gonna treat him before they figure out what to do with him.  Beyond cynical, but I'd assume I'm right.  If they can't make money off of him anymore, they have no need for his services.

Granted, I assume we're done with him, but if there's money to be made off of him, you can never be too sure.

Judging from the fact that some people are defending his actions and putting it all on Ward, people will still support him. The question is how much.

Farking dumbass Tony. Now I can't enjoy my favorite race on the calendar, and my home-state race to boot.

He's scheduled to race. This is going to be a giant clusterfark of an event with that hanging over it.

I'm guessing that's why the headline was snipped as well?

It is an interesting question.  Granted, I make it a habit to not watch videos where you can watch someone get injured or die, but from the descriptions alone I can assume that the only people whose opinion I actually want to hear on it are the drivers.  Hearing Farkers fight back & forth on these sorts of things is mind-numbingly stupid, because 99% of us at least have never driven sprint cars. I know there'll still be bickering between them, but I'd much rather listen to them than that thread.

NASCAR is pulling a Goodell are they?

eddievercetti: NASCAR is pulling a Goodell are they?

Not quite the same, as Ray's incident happened in the middle of the offseason and is already in the court system.  But either way, they're playing the "innocent until proven guilty" vs "court of public opinion" game right now, without acknowledging that they automatically lose the latter with certain people if they even play the game.

Today should be a good yardstick for exactly how dumb trackside fans can be.

Tony not racing, Regan Smith is taking over.

Stewart would be smart to skip the remainder of the season. Maybe even retire.

Glad this is the next race though because it is less likely to involve horrific crashes. And NASCAR doesn't need that now.

It had its share of horrific crashes before they put in the bus stop.

Man, this was such a good weekend, and it came to a screeching halt. I was hoping for a really fun race thread. I'm not even sure if I'll activate the Idol today...

Boris usually shows up for next weeks race our here. I'll keep my eyes out for him.

This town is already a mess. Car haulers every where. Auction sites fencing off areas. No hotel rooms available.

Yeah, let's just let the idols and Buddhas sit idle today.  But have the incantation on standby.

Hey guys.

Still extremely upset about last night's ordeal. Can't really get into the race today.

Glad Stewart is sitting out because I don't think he should be racing currently. Not until this fiasco is settled.

Still praying for Kevin's family and I was glad to hear that Stewart is being fully cooperative in the investigation. I still don't believe he did it unintentionally.

But that discussion is for the thread over yonder. Praying for his family and also for Stewart. Can't imagine that feeling he has right now.

Go Jeff.

Let's go, Smoke Regan Smith!

I still don't believe he did it intentionally is what I meant to say. Whoops.

This this this.

I'll be keeping track of the commercials as I usually do, but I'll put a smaller report up and keep the snark to a minimum.

I'm ready for racing.  Since Smoke's sitting out (which is the correct move), hopefully the drivers can focus on their jobs and have a safe, clean race.

Tony was 19th in the points with 5 races left to move into the top 16

If NASCAR sat his ass down to avoid a PR nightmare, you can assume his season and possibly his career are over

I hope they pick someone interesting to put in his car next year. Juan Pablo would be nice just to see how he does with Kurt and harvick

Be interesting to see Regan Smith drive a car set up for Tony.

I'm at the bar with a bunch of Nascar hard cores and it's very surreal. Some of them were there last night and it's just very quiet when normally you can't hear shiat

Hell, he probably sat himself out. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be behind the wheel so soon after something like that.

One of my local sportcasters was really giving it to ESPN last night regarding this.  I tweeted her and let her know that's how we feel about ESPN's NASCAR coverage anyhow.

Pretty sure Tony is gonna get sued into the ground both personally and professionally for this "accident." Looks like karma finally caught up with the guy. Thoughts go out to the Ward family.
