Someone went to Torchy's and Taco Diner Dallas and decided that was the direction the decor and the tacos needed to go.

As long as it keeps out the poors, I'd try it.

I like the idea of a lobster taco, but $10 for a frickin taco?  That thing better have a half pound of lobster in it.

Hell, they even have one called "The 1%er". Way to take a term of derision and turn it into a marketing tool.

The only mention of Fieri is in the comments:

This sounds like something Guy Fieri pulled out his ass and left in the toilet tank at Taco Bell HQ.

I think he's a ridiculous bozo, but trying to pin on him every menu that features more than iceberg lettuce and mayonnaise is a little childish.

I was one of the eight people who tried Taco Bell's Cantina menu.

They should have consulted with me before pumping any more money into it.

Have you ever had the Trailer Park and "got it trashy" at Torchy's? Dee-licious.

Oh, and why does Texas even need Taco Bell when we have Taco Cabana and the aforementioned Torchy's and Taco Diner? Although I'm told those Dorito shell tacos are glorious.

While I'm here, Guy Fieri needs to die in a pool of his own vomit.

This is a menu that features things called 'Shut Your Pie Hole', 'Friggin' Fried Ice Cream', 'Hot Chix' and 'Wanna Get Lei'd'. I think we can invoke Fieri here.

Taco Bell Mexican tacos.  It's just (relatively) cheap, salty, greasy slop designed to compete with other fast food chains.

It could be an Italian soda made to order.  Or it could be a bottled soda like Boylan's.  Everything is "craft" these days.

It's probably Maine Root which would be another ripoff from the menu of the aformentioned Torchy's.

It brings up a point that I have been wondering about for a while. Why isn't fish/seafood a bigger part of the Mexican food menu?

There are long coastlines along both oceans. No seafood crept in?

For the same reason swordfish isn't huge in Chicago.

Just because they're not on Mexican restaurant menus in the US doesn't mean Mexico has a dearth of seafood dishes.

Yeah, this. And there are Mexican seafood reataurants, they are just hard to find. I know there are at least a couple in the Chicago area. Mmmmm.... Camarones a la diabla....

If you're gonna market yourself as the Douchebag's Douchebag, don't be surprised when your picture ends up in the dictionary next to the word "douchebag".

\none of his image problems are anyone's fault but his, and the agent that pointed him towards those jobs

At least Taco Bell has for the past couple decades been honest about what it is: an American fast-food restaurant chain where the menu items are shaped sort of like Tex-Mex cuisine.

Everything about this new venture -- from the appropriation of Mexican iconography to the faux-chalkboard menus to the gently irreverent focus-grouped item names -- is bland to the point of offense.

Until I saw the price, I assumed they meant the amount of lobster included.

If those pictures are how the tacos actually look. Then yummy, I'd go for it.

Mexican cuisine has lots of seafood dishes, but they're mostly regional for the coasts, just like in the US and really every kind of ethnic cuisine. Northern's heavy on meats and cheeses, Oaxaca has lots of soups and moles (suaces), Jalisco, Durango,Veracruz....

Also, it's taken decades for Mexican cuisine to really get noticed and appreciated outside it's own culture, just like every other ethnic cuisine in the US. In the beginning, there were the basics of tacos, enchiladas, tamales, rellenos, burritos...made with ground beef, shredded pork, or chicken. Over the years, other cooking styles went from the family kitchens into restaurants, widening the variety with al pastor, lengua, carnitas, birria, etc. Italian and Chinese went through the same sort of transition, going from some basic, broad appeal dishes in restaurants to featuring more authentic and regional dishes as the decades passed.

It'd be interesting to see if 'American' restaurants have evolved overseas in a similar manner; starting off with some simple basics like steak, pot roast, fried chicken, and then adding in more regional styles and dishes.

Hey subtard, it's not steak fritas.

It's steak CUT french fries.  Style of potato cut, not meat.

Also, why did you put quotes around "fritas".  Do you put your bunny ear fingers up for air quotes when you order "tacos"?

Have you ever tried asking for a chili cheese burrito?

Just wondering....because all the taco bells near me carry it... and since they decided that "chilito" was an obscene word, they call it "chili cheese burrito."

That's how I used to order them, until they stopped carrying them.

I miss the bacon cheeseburger burrito they used to have too.
