If Terry Pegula doesn't buy the Bills for some reason he can pay for that in cash plus a nice condo in San Francisco.

Can I just say how it's utter bullshiat that any private entity in this country owns this much property?

W.T. Waggoner

Ideally named guy.  He could have done this or designed 1970's era station wagons.  Good decision on choosing the ranching thing.

Local residents have been worried that oil wildcatters or foreign investors will divide up the land and fire ranch employees, more motivated by making a profit than preserving history.

Never fear, Texans. I'm sure that the government you've elected will prioritize you over mere profit.

Yeah, and right after you buy it some g-men will show up and try to claim it's "blm" land. No thanks.

That's small potatoes compared to Ted Turner, I think he owns like 2 million acres, well over 3000 square MILES.

Wasn't the Forbes ranch larger? I seem to remember a Spanish grant that came through. That when it was first seen by a Forbes there was a replica of Versailles? They were forces to sell off. The bio had a great line "Due the awesome views, we decided to sell land to the public for their enjoyment". Rather than saying they lost a lawsuit.
Also he Bass? brothers that owned land in Ky that spread through three counties.

If I ever got obscenely rich that's what I would do.  Isn't Ted's plan to buy up enough land that he can ride a horse all the way from Mexico to Canada without leaving his property, or am I mixing up my stories.

/the subtext to his plan is that he is buying up a shiatload of land over the aquifers so he has a prime stake when water shortages become common around the country as they have become in Atlanta

It represents not quite one third of one percent of all the land in Texas. So sure it's a big number but as far a the size of the state is concerned, it's point on a map.
