Funny how that seems to happen whenever Israel just happens to be bombing the shiat out of something.

Really happens when you have marginalized groups with little socio economic opportunity casting about for easy scapegoats to their problems

I've never understood anti-semitism. Of the Jewish people I know almost all of them are extraordinarily warm and generous, I'd say more so than a random sampling of the general population.

Is it just lack of exposure in Europe?  Are these attacks mainly being led by European Muslims who have their own grudges?   Seriously, what's going on?   You'd think that after the horrors Europe saw in WW2 due to persecution of the Jewish people that they'd be the most accepting of them today.

I think it's basically the same thing that makes rednecks in the US fly the Confederate flag and derp about how the South is gonna rise again.  It's an old, lazy way of thinking that tells you your particular group is being usurped of its God-given birthright by some sneaky other out to get you.

In short, they're Europe's teabaggers.

It's a better term than antisemite. Unless of course these people are actual antisemites and hate everyone who speaks a Semitic language.

It's old.  Tribal.  And for centuries, the Roman Catholic Church in Europe actively encouraged (required, almost) persecution of Jewish people.  But it's even deeper than that.  Jewish people have been persecuted, killed, and driven away by many cultures over the centuries.  I've never been able to understand why.  (One joke I've heard is that every Jewish holiday is the same theme: They tried to kill us, we survived, let's eat!)

As for the WW2 question - people tend to think that everybody in the world went to war with Hitler over his treatment of the Jews.  They didn't.  As a matter of fact, most people had no problem with anti-Semitism, though they did see the Nazi version as extremist and objectionable on a humanitarian level.  (Basically, he was killing millions of  people, and that was of course unacceptable - but that they were Jews wasn't the issue.)  The main cause of the war was German expansionism.  Some have hypothesized that if Hitler had deported all Jews instead of committing genocide, and had not started trying to conquer the world all at once, most of the world would not have interfered until the military expansionism reached a tipping point.

I'm with you - the Jewish people I know are no better nor worse than anyone else.  I've never understood the hate at all.

For whatever perceived failings they may have as a faith or a culture, I could never quite get all the Jew hate.

Sure they can be a bit blunt and insular, but as a community, they have been leaders in law, finance, arts and entertainment.  Their ethnicity Is their faith is their culture and by and large, they are pulling some pretty solid numbers on the productive / chronic insufferable f*ckup ratio as a culture.

Low crime rates.  They prize education, the arts and sciences and the musical and theatrical arts by and large and seem to contribute more than they take.

Somebody clue me in.  What's with all the "der gottdamn Chooos!" kerfuffle?

If the French establishment has harboured a deep vein of anti-Jewish sentiment since long before the Dreyfus affair, the influence of radical Islam, many Jewish community leaders say, is plainly a significant contributing factor in the country's present-day antisemitism.

Part of it is that the Jews were among the only moneylenders in Europe for a long time because of Christian usury bans.

Hate needs no reason, and in fact the most powerful and durable of hatreds are the ones that are rooted in literally no reason at all. Such hate cannot be bargained with, cannot be appeased, and absolutely will never stop, not even after there is nobody left to hate.

/what's funny is all the haters that honestly believe that "Holocaust guilt" is a magic power
//just as the world didn't go to war with Hitler "because anti-semitism," they didn't give stick the refugees in Israel "because Holocaust"
///but at least as long as they are pursuing the "magic power of victimization," they aren't pursuing things that work in reality, which will make things much easier when it's time to clean them up

Up until about 6? 5? years ago, the majority of hate crimes in France were committed against Jews. That shifted to Muslims and for the first time the majority polled in France declared that they believed French Jews were French. Most of the hate cries against Jews were committed by North African immigrants and they, in turn, were the victims of the majority of hate crimes in France.

That has shifted radically in the last year. This kind of anti-Jewish violence hasn't been seen since before the last world war.

I think maybe there's some misunderstanding here. Gassed has become a word in common use meaning "Too tired to continue fighting" thanks to the popularity of MMA. So what they were really saying was "The Jews must be really "tired" from bombing the shiat out of Palestinian children in hospitals and U.N. schools if they stopped for 72 hours for a breather."

That old Christian sentiment of "They killed our Lord Jesus!" is a good place to start.  Never mind that the Romans were the ultimate power back then.  Also never mind that the whole point of Jesus being there was to be a sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
