That's because the show got uncancelled and JMS had to write some filler.

They have a bunch of made for TV movies. With all the actors that have passed away since the series ended I don't think they could make a good movie.

I was just going to say they had better not touch either G'kar or Molari, nobody can replicate their chemistry. Just leave those characters alone.

No no no no no NO with the reboots.  If they want to do something pre-B5 or post B5, cool, different actors and plots.

But the idea of new actors playing the roles makes me vomit in my mouth.

Funniest scene from just about any show I've ever seen was the one where G'Kar and Molari are trapped in the elevator, slowly dying and G'Kar is cracking up.

So B5 fans, can I ask, is it still worth watching?

I figure I should be a huge fan of it since I always enjoyed J. Michael Straczynski's other work, and I know who the characters are, though not their stories, and all of that sounds terrific.

But I downloaded the first five episodes about six months ago, watched the first three episodes and put it away. It just seemed meh, interesting, but not worth going back to.

I have no problem with reboots in general, but I don't understand why you'd want to reboot B5 unless you are planning to make a bunch of movies or a new TV series.

Frankly, I 'd rather see a Chuck movie.

Stephen Biggs

Andreas Katsulas

I haven't been able to keep up with the rest of them.  There's a Zathras scene in this one for Tim Choate

The second half of Season 5 is a lot better than the first half.  I get what they were trying to do with Byron, but it was so preachy and obvious.

Short answer: <randomnoise>  "Yes" </randomnoise>

Somewhat less short answer:  The effects are definitely of their time, and the story doesn't really get its legs until the first third of season 2, but you don't want to miss even the poorer episodes because there is *always* something that advances the larger arc.

seasons 1-4 and "Babylon 5: In the Begining"  are totally worth watching ... you can skip Season 5 entirely...unless you enjoyed the first 4 seasons and like being angry and disappointed.
Also skip pretty much EVERYTHING  ELSE...especially Crusade.

The first season takes a long time to get going.  If you want an abridged version that gets you the key concepts before getting into Season 2, go with Soul Hunter, And the Sky Full of Stars, Signs and Portents, A Voice in the Wilderness 1 & 2, Babylon Squared, and Chrysalis.  Go back and watch the rest of Season 1 when you're hooked (which will probably happen around the last third of Season 2).

In some ways, the themes of the show are as resonant as ever, and it's definitely worth watching.

You can skip everything of Season 5 except for the last episode (that is, the series finale) which was originally scripted to Season 4, but shelved for Season 5 when they were renewed again.

We're in the same boat. I completely missed it when it came out, and I'm supposed to be co-watching with a friend who also missed it, but I'm struggling to even get through the pilot. It will be interesting for about 10 minutes, then something dumb or distracting will happen that completely throws me out of the story.

It doesn't help that they're trying to establish so much of their fictional universe alongside that first story, but it certainly feels like they would have been better served to leave a few mysteries open and introduce/elaborate those elements later.

It picks up more consistently in Season 2. You can probably skip most of Season 1 if you want.

they took one of my favorite characters, and arguably the most powerful human (mostly) PSI in the universe (seriously... Lyta could crush ships with her mind from hundreds of thousands of miles away)  and then they made turned her into a low self esteem back bencher to that god damn sensitive pony tail knob Byron.
not bad enough they removed the major players from the previous seasons...but that just pushed it to far for me.

So, B5 Story time...

Years ago, probably around Season 2 or 3, JMS showed up at one of the big Science Fictoin conventions in the Bay Area; probably BayCon. The moment that he made his presence known was at the Charity Auction. They'd just auctioned off the last item and were about to close down. JMS was in the audience, sitting next to a girl, stood up, and got the attention of the Auctioneer, saying that he had one more item to add to the list. "This young lady doesn't think I could get $100 for my signature. So, I offer up my autograph on this business card. This is my personal business card for Babylonian Productions and has the address of the studio on it (back then, the location of the studio was still a secret, IIRC). The person that wins this bid can bring the card to Babylonian Productions at any time and receive a free tour of the studio. it will also entitle them to a lunch in the commissary with the cast and crew. The only caveat being that you have to provide your own transportation to and from Canada. Now....who'd like to start the bidding?"

I believe that card went for around $5,000
