I never bought into the idea of bad nudity/good nudity. (Yes, there are people I don't want to see nude. I mean bad nudity as in, someone who might make good nudity but in the wrong situation it would be bad nudity.)

I was wrong. So very, very wrong. It reached out through my phone and ate a piece of my soul.

I remember going to see Showgirls in the theatre when it was released.  The director and writer of Basic Instinct making a hard-R movie about Vegas showgirls, starring the sweet blond from Saved By the Bell and the guy from Twin Peaks?  Fark ya that was going to be a hoot.

The first 45 minutes of the show wasn't that bad really.  Yummy Gina Gershon and the lapdance scene and the initial showgirls scenes ... then the farking movie went on and on and on ... I was 22 at the time and if you had told me a movie so full of naked boobies would be deathly boring I would have laughed at you.  The farking movie was over two hours long.  What the fark?  My friends and I left the theatre in dejection and headed to the strippers, but the night was ruined.  Fark you Joe Eszterhas and Paul Verhoeven.  You assholes made two hours of naked boobies boring.  I still can't believe that is possible.

Brokenseas: a hard-R movie

NC-17.

In fact, it's the film whose financial (and critical) failure (for all intents + purposes) killed the viability of the rating in the "minds" of the studio executives. There hasn't been a major label film in wide release with that rating since.

That sounds like someone with a touch of the bipolar.  Kind of feel bad for her.  It's bad enough that you have a mental illness but it must be horrific when the whole world can see it.

Didn't "This Film Has Not Yet Been Rated" get an NC17 rating? Not sure if it counts as a wide release since it was a documentary but I didn't see it on the list you posted.

I think the first time it was submitted, it got an NC17 mainly because of a segment showing what a types of content would get movies various ratings including NC17. I think the released version of the film was true to the films name Not Rated. Also, "Killer Joe" released in 2011 was NC17.

She's had an alright career.  Has worked more regularly than many that were on comparable shows.  She thought Showgirls was going to make her the next Sharon Stone.  It didn't propel her career, but it didn't kill it either.

Well, it killed it for a little while, and then she learned how to manage "that chick from Showgirls" into pretty good parts on stuff like CSI Miami and The L Word...

It wasn't so much the preponderance of bad naked that killed that movie for me, but true, there was tons of it.  No, it was the fact that there wasn't a SINGLE character in that movie that wasn't a complete turd.  Seriously, did Joe Esta...whatever his name is just decide to write a screenplay where the audience can't relate to any of the characters?  I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre after Showgirls and had more empathy for farking Leatherface.

There was one good character: Molly the black seamstress who takes in Nomi, helps her get work and provides a moral center. Of course, she gets raped and then beaten into a coma . . .
