Clicking.  Then more clicking.  If you click enough, you're rewarded with an autoclicker that clicks for you.  I think that's represented in-game by postdocs.

All the visiting physicists at work were playing it this week.  I don't see the point, but then I'm only a mere chemist (which is apparently way harder to understand than physics).

Does anything come after summer students? I'm up to Level 2 Top Quark, a Nobel Prize Winner, and only 41/105 achievements. How far does this go?

well, i didn't look at the source but based on what ive seen i'm guessing there are achievements for 5 and 25 in each category, and possibly more, maybe 50 or 100 also? (the highest i have in any is 34 so far)... highest discovery i got is antihydrogen which is the next after top quark, i wouldn't be surprised if there were more after that.. there's also spending achievements like 100M, probably some more after that, and a click achieve..( i got 1000 but i doubt i'll get much more, getting 369 per click is a waste of time and carpal tunnel when i get 8.3k every second anyway..)

silly game but kind of fun for sure. i'm getting a kick out of the kittens game linked earlier also.

(spoiler alert)

Summer students are the highest HR tier, but there are 3 more research categories ending with Higgs Boson. There are achievements at 1/5/25/50/100 of each item.

Me too, clicking is now almost pointless.  I could and may end up macroing the hell out of it tho.
Pretty sure there's no end to it.

Nice, nice.. I started off using a macro that generated a click every 1/10th of a second which after upgraded equipment equates to 2.550k data per second.  I leveled up items for awhile  and then let the machine auto pilot over night. Woke up this morning wondering if I maxed out the limits on auto pilot like the game might have rolled back to zero.  Discovered the higs boson which cost about 50 million data.
So far I am 10 hours in and have half of the achievements. If I don't have all the achievements by tonight I might open up my cheat engine and give you guys a throuhough catalog of all the achievements.
The bot engine I used was runescape client. or RSclient.  http://download.garyshood.com/rsclient_old/rsclient.exe

Here is what the game looks like when you speed up the clicks faster than the un-rendering fade effect. Looks very similar to an atom.  The brown outline looks like an electron shell. The blue and green looks like protons and neutrons.

The PR doesn't get any benifit from your current rep only future rep. So it doesn't add benefit until you do more research. I.E. the multiplier only comes in after the fact. So to maximize the funding it's best to do PR right before you spend data.
