Wow.  That car is seriously overcompensating for something.  But I can't quite tell what.

Wanting to be noticed.

at $12.7 million you are pretty much steeling the car.

Strengthening it?

I didn't read the story. I only looked at the pictures. I'm guessing this is Donald Trump's car?

It looks like someone at Mercedes thought the pinnacle of car design was the late-90s Camaro.

UNC_Samurai: It looks like someone at Mercedes thought the pinnacle of car design was the late-90s Camaro.

First off, this was a custom job. No one who works for Mercedes could put out this turd and expect to keep their job.

Second, are you daring to suggest that eyesore, also referred to as a 97 Camaro, wasn't the pinnacle of Detroit engineering and style? Because that is just ridiculous. That would mean I looked like a total and massive tool when I had one and that just isn't possible.

Not sure if serious, but regardless, the new Camaro SS is a very pretty car, IMO. Of course, if you gave me the choice between that and a Civic Si sedan I would take the Civic, but that's because I'm a grown ass man.

I'm looking for something with wheels two sizes too large for the wheel wells and 15° of camber.  I'm more of a Toyota Tercel with 22 inch wheels guy.

The supercharged 5.4-litre engine has been power boosted from 640bhp to 999 bhp - giving it a top speed of more than 210mph.

Okay, this could be at least somewhat useful.

Although when Clarkson drove the SLR on Top Gear it was already very tail-waggy. I doubt that situation has improved much.

Given how vehicles are decorated in lots of developing countries, I strongly suspect this lovely creation will shortly be in the hands of a top-10 rich guy somewhere like Uganda or Thailand.

Someone might have to break it whoever did that...just because you spent x customizing a car doesn't mean that car is worth x.

Hmmm, I guess the used car market actually IS that good.
I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX Sedan for sale (I'm looking at you, Ass Man) and based on the selling price of this car vs. the book value, you Farkers can have it for a mere...

$450,514

And my car isn't even ruined!

My first thought as well.

and: "That's right, at $12.7 million you are pretty much steeling the car "

Steeling yourself for the abundant ridicule, no doubt.

To be fair, the late '90s models were a huge improvement over the '80s models that left transmission and motor parts behind as you went down the road.  Just because the designers connected a Z28 nose to a cavalier rear end with the sides from an '86 mustang isn't enough to wholly condemn the car.

What i don't get is how this guy is clearly succumbing to the "I'm rich, therefore I need to show off for my other rich friends" attitude, but fails to grasp that a huge part of that ethos is having something nobody else has- the rich idiot that thinks this is cool wouldn't buy it, he'd build one of his own abominations. Why just write a check for something else that's already well known and was someone else's project? Vintage Ferraris are one thing, a tacky custom is entirely another.

Money doesn't buy taste or class.. And that ugly thing is priced in Steve McQueen Ferrari territory.

Did he hijack a tanker truck full of red paint?

I thought that the SLR was fugly to start with. I had no idea it was possible to make it that much worse.

I usually like the red and gold color scheme, but that car just proves anyone can ruin anything.
