As opposed to their airships and rocket ships, which were unaffected.

Monitor. I did a research project on this in 7 th grade. Still have it 40 years later. Before they found the ship, sunken off Hampton Roads.

I live near Merrimack. This headline was meh.

If I can comment on the actual article at hand.  They say that elderly man found in pond that there was no sign of foul play.  It's just a run of the mill drowning in a pond I guess or possible suicide?

And kudos to subby for a great headline.  I never heard of this battle and I have a keen interest in Civil War history and sat through Ken Burns' Civil War miniseries twice.

Here is the gentle theme song that will play beneath the footage of the gritty, world-weary detective trying to solve the case:

The only song about Civil War ironclads that I know.

Nice headline subby.

johnsoninca: Is the determination of no foul play ironclad?

Came here to make sure someone made an ironclad pun.  A little clunky, but I'll take it.  It seceded in making me giggle.

Kearsarge and the Alabama is a nice follow-up, although not nearly as strategically important.

I live throwing distance from the Monitor Merricmac bridge, I supersede you and I say the headline is win. Go sit in the corner and think about how your lack of enjoyment of wit and jovial nature has led you to failure.

I'm much more familiar with the battles fought on land than the naval battles of the Civil War.  Had not heard of the Kearsarge and the Alabama battles either.

Okay. Clever, I guess.
But whose first thought is the Civil War when they hear Merrimack? Is subby a reenactor or something?
