The article said none of those things and simply laid out what is happening as far as exemptions go.

Better greenlight this troll headline though.

The Affordable Care Act was narrowly upheld by the Supreme Court in June 2012 in a ruling based in part on acceptance of the administration's argument that the law's individual mandate was not a tax.

Wasn't it the opposite of this? Didn't Roberts basically said that the penalty for not getting insurance was really a tax and since congress has the authority to tax, then the mandate was constitutional?

Yeah, no.  You didn't build the Internet.  You used it to post and you took advantage of all the government dollars spent to build it, but you personally didn't make the Internet with your sweat, tears, or capital.  You didn't build that.

A new congressional report has estimated that more than 25 million Americans without health insurance will not be made to pay a penalty in 2016 due to an exploding number of ObamaCare exemptions.

OH MY GOD PANIC! NUMBERS ARE EXPLODING!

The Wall Street Journal, citing an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation, reported that the number of people expected to pay the fine in 2016 has dwindled to four million people from the report's previous projection of six million.

OH MY GOD it's ALMOST HALF OF WHAT THEY REPORTED.

Oh. Wait. Of 29 million people, they expected 23 million would not pay. Instead, it's 25 million would not pay. So a government projection is off by less than 10% due to circumstances described below.

From the WSJ article:
Also bringing down the total: At least 21 states have opted not to expand the Medicaid insurance program for lower earners under the health law, and those residents may be exempt from the penalty.

Oh this is once again because a bunch of states didn't expand Medicaid.

Also from the WSJ article:

Now, Republicans who oppose the law say the administration has undermined that requirement with the exemptions and should waive the mandate entirely.

"If your pajamas don't fit well, you don't need health insurance," said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, former director of the Congressional Budget Office and president of the American Action Forum, a conservative think tank. "It basically waives the individual mandate."

Was that like a joke you told someone and they awkwardly laughed but had no f*cking clue what you were talking about?

Based on the Fark headline, I thought the article was going to be about a company that didn't get an exemption because of political reasons. Silly me.

2014-08-07 10:23:40 AM
The Act provided exemptions to the penalty for certain groups, such as illegal immigrants and members of certain Native American tribes or religious sects. The Obama administration has since added exemptions for hardships like domestic violence, property damage suffered in a fire or flood, or having a health plan canceled when ObamaCare came into effect this past October 1. One exemption, written as being for people who "experienced another hardship acquiring health insurance" does not require documentation.

Residents of 21 states who have opted not to expand their Medicaid program under the health law may also be exempt from the penalty. The Journal reports that more than 4 million Americans who receive subsidies through the federal ObamaCare exchange could qualify for hardship waivers if the subsidies are struck down in court.

There is a diner near me that is a hotbed of wingnuttery. The employees all wear t-shirts with republican talking points, and even the menus have conservative messages on them. The best parts of it would still be in place even if everyone got an exemption from the mandate to purchase insurance, it's just the corporate welfare aspect of it wouldn't be. Odd that conservative rubes are told to be concerned about corporate welfare, you'd figure they'd be told to repeat talking points about the limits on profiteering or the medical device tax.

He didn't flub it, it was phrased poorly and made it easy to pull out of context.  This is what he actually said, and it's clear what he's referring to:
"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me-because they want to give something back. They know they didn't-look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own... If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business-you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. "

Dude, you're talking to people so partisan, that they will look at a quote like this and shiat themselves with glee that it can be taken out of context to say something else, while at the same time defending any and everything to ever come out of Palin's mouth.

Obama's argument on whether it is a tax or not changed depending on who he is speaking to. His Obamatons are too dumb to pick this up. Kind of like how he condemned NAFTA is a speech to stupid, low-information voters and then called Canada and told him he was only kidding.

It was a corrupt, unethical thought from its inception, whether it was Obama saying it, or that liar Warren, or any of the other do-nothing socialists over the decades who've mindlessly parroted the sentiment.

"We built the roads, so now everything you own belongs to the State, and by the way, we who are part of the State will tell you what we will graciously allow you get to keep, out of the goodness of our benevolent hearts."

The problem with this kind of revolting, brain-dead corruption isn't even the "we built the roads ... " part.  It's the leap from that idiotic observation to "... so you owe us, forever, and we'll let you know how much you owe."

The ethical corruption originates in their belief in this non-existent, self-serving fantasy that, because they force everyone to pay for and use the state's death-trap roads, that somehow further obligates everyone to the state.
