Wanna watch a fish play Pokémon on the internet?

Well I thought about it for a few seconds and no. No I don't wanna. The post from doglover is much more interesting

Based on the five seconds of the stream that I saw, even the fish recognized how boring Pokemon is.

Ya. One of the single biggest selling franchises in history is clearly boring as sin.

It's not your cup of tea. We get it that you only like artisinal hand crafted one-off games from single man production studios made with the finest ingredients and hand blended, then aged 30 years in a mesquite (never oak) barrel.  With triple hops.

I seriously thought the same thing.

Glad there's no disagreement.

You're aware that I think larger development teams are ideal, would prefer a small number of publishers to exert an iron hand over distribution (see: 1985-2009), and pretty much despise everything that is being peddled as "indie", right?

And yes, I have no problem having this discussion here, given there's no constructive discussion to be had by actually acknowledging the content in the article.

You misunderstand Mike_LowELL.  If it was made after 1995, he hates it.  The only exception is Starcraft.  He's very knowledgeable about video games and does a very good job of rationalizing his biases.  However, he is cut out in the nostalgia gamer mode whether he wants to admit it or not.

Having said that, yeah Pokemon is kind of overrated and is basically just repackaging the least memorable parts of 1990's JRPGs over and over again.  It can get away with it because of all the success it had marketing in said decade and because its fanbase refuses to let go.

It is a really, really, really dull game. I understand that the original gameboy had very little processing power and the pace of the game was probably impressive to 8 year olds in the early 90s, but oh. my. god is it slow. It seems like fark all has been changed in the combat or exploration since the original iteration. It plays like a supercharged Tiger handheld. It still uses the same ridiculous "super effective" lingo that was probably the result of a shiatty translation back in the 90s. It seems like the fanbase operates entirely on nostalgia.

And why in the hell is there no minimap? In pokemon black the second screen was just bright pink. Now that the 3DS version is out, there's no 3D and still no map. Why does nintendo hate its own hardware?

//I sold pokemon black
//nintendo gave me pokemon Y. It's still dull as nails.
//if you like this kinda shiat, shin megami tensei 4 is a much better game

And yet you hate EVERYTHING. Your definitions of 'a proper game' are so narrow as to preclude anything but 2 games produced in 1995 by a slightly dyslexic colorblind midget with Crohns.
