Nothing strange about it, submitter. In fact the article explains why.

FTA: For now, Zealand does not want to ride the bus alone and his mom said she doesn't know that she feels comfortable with him riding it alone, so for now she is dropping him off.

Mosley said Zealand will likely continue to take the bus home because he can ride it with his older sibling.

I get the sense subby imagines some hipocrisy here.

Why is it strange, the chances of a student getting left on a bus in that school district has dropped exponentially because of this incident.  I guarantee every driver will be double and triple checking their buses for the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking they sure as hell won't make that mistake again, so why not be cool about him riding the bus?

So where the fark was this older sibling on this day?

/Lives in San Tan Valley, right next to Queen Creek.  Never had a kid left on the bus, but did miss bringing them home a few times.

This happened to me and my little sister once when I was six and she five. New bus driver didnt remember he was supposed to turn down our street. Was his first and last day, especially after he tried to blame us.

Yeah  subby, this lady should forego a public service and inconvenience herself over a mistake that presumably won't be happening again.

Tricky Chicken: I get the sense subby imagines some hipocrisy here.

I think hip hypocrisy would be a better name for a child than Zealand.

If the kid grows up to be overweight, which is a strong likelihood, their nickname can be hippo.

Most school buses now have a child safety switch located by the rear exit door or something similar to ensure that the driver walks to the back of the bus. Some even newer versions will sound an alarm if the switch is not activated. On my bus I have no alarm, but my interior lights will not shut off until I hit the switch.

I only take middle and HS. I wouldn't want the younger kids because they seem to have to clean up puke a couple of times a month. And the Parents are a more involved.

No kidding, seems like a problem that solves itself. Now you have two people, the bus driver and the kid, who are probably going to pay a lot more attention next time.

Going by the article it sounds like the kid only rides home with his sibling because the kid attends the afternoon kindergarten session. It's pretty common for kindergartens to have a morning and afternoon session with different kids in each session. I know the schools in my area have been doing it that way for years.

"Mosley says he's been traumatized by the incident..."

...by the hysteria of his mother.

But I guess you can't file a suit for emotional suffering and punitive damages without pretending you were harmed.

// Was fine, until Mom made it traumatic event

Yeah, that was my thought upon seeing the headline. A bad incident on the bus doesn't suddenly give Mom unscheduled afternoons or gas money to pick him up if she already couldn't.

After re-reading, it was on the drop off *to* school that he was forgotten.  Makes more sense he could be asleep then cause it sure aint in the afternoons on the bus this time of year.

I'll bet if they drug test the little punk they'll find pot in his system.  He was probably casing the joint for his parents to see if there was anything worth stealing...oh, what's that?  He's a white kid?  I'M OUTRAGED!  How could they do this to the little snowflake.  Firings for all!  The Superintendent should step down immediately!

2014-08-07 12:58:55 PM
Seems perfectly sensible to me.1) the same school/drivers are unlikely to make the same mistake twice, procedures are likely updated, etc., so putting her kid back on seems pretty safe2) raising a public fuss about it is likely to be seen by plenty of other teachers/school bus drivers/principles who may learn from it and ensure it doesn't happen to them before someone else's kid having to go through a similar thing at their school

Ezakly.

Anyone worthy of the bench should begin any case by laughing her out of the courtroom.
If she returns, the judge should admonish her for naming the child a "ghetto" name. And fine her for contempt of society.

First, she loses points because of that farking horrible name. Zealand. That's just godawful.

Having said that, people have learned, through bitter experience, that large entities (like school districts and corporations) tend to not take problems seriously and thus don't do anything to fix them unless it costs them a ton of money or a lot of bad PR or both.
