I was wondering what bit of info Starnes was leaving out. Also, the last paragraph...

As I document extensively in my book, "God Less America," there is a clear and present danger for Christians serving in the armed forces. This administration seems hell-bent on marginalizing Christianity and punishing Christians who refuse to stifle their beliefs.

Ahhh, there it is.

That doesn't play to the narrative. Facts would spoil a lovely story, and narrative is King...

I have really grown tiresome of the argument that you aren't free to practice your religion if you can't be openly hostile to those whose beliefs are different from yours.

Well, I used to believe it was just a small and outdated set of people who based their faith on hate and intolerance, but it's increasingly becoming the default position of the religious right.

I shouldn't be surprised, as it does align well with their political thinking - validation only comes from waging a war against oppression, oppression that can just be created whole cloth even where none exists.

Ahh...it never surprised me, but then I've been following religious trends in the US for awhile. I just wish the Christians who think talk of oppression is batshiat insane would speak up louder and more often.

Any government employee that is not politically elected is supposed to shut the fark up about politics. My personal experience with it is long story short, an embassy worker that I had an interview with made a crack about Dick Cheney. He immediately apologized and said that he shouldn't have done that. When you have a job that requires you to perform it no matter which party is in charge, you better shut the fark up and do it. If you can't handle it then get out of there. It reminds me a little of the pharmacists who want exceptions to giving out birth control. If you can;t do the job in the way it is required, then don't have that farking job.

It is the typical, "oh, he was very, very good at his job except for this one thing which is what got him fired" story. Government employees do not have and never have had the same free speech rights as the general public. People just tend to forget that the military is a branch of the government, military employees included...it is kind of funny that in my experience, some of the most right wing, anti welfare, anti tax people I know decided to join the biggest gov't expenditure and the biggest reason for needing taxes. I guess killing people overrides that concern.
