Just leave him home alone with the Lego movie. Dumbass.

I don't see why not.
I mean, Lego makes plenty of money.

The judge issued an order of protection against Juarez and she must stay away from her son until her next court date.

Well she's definitely not going to be able to watch him now.

TsarTom: Hale Storm?

I was going to post a pic of Gale Storm but then I discovered there's a band called Halestorm

I wish they arrested parents who did this when I worked retail. Every day during the summer there were a dozen kids who would roam the mall all day because their parents would drop them off there with five bucks for lunch. After twenty minutes at the arcade that five bucks was spent and they would go from store to store trying to entertain themselves and generally just annoying employees.

But apparently my YMCA is a babysitter for every family in town, as the pool is always full of about 100 kids with no parents anywhere to be seen

I remember when Roosevelt Field was only one story and they had fountains all along the middle. I was 12, the first time I took the bus with my friends to go hang out there. That was when we were all blissfully ignorant of all the bad people in this world. When I had kids, I never let them out of my sight in public. I have to wonder if parents like her are secretly hoping someone takes the kids.

When I was a kid, my parents would drop me off at the toy section at K-Mart and pick me up two hours later.

Yep, been there done that. Thankfully I worked in a pizza shop so there really wasnt much to do there...

I don't get how the kid stayed for 90 minutes on his own?  How did he survive without going "mommy, look what I made!" every five minutes?

She's lucky the kid didn't go to pieces.

I'm sorry, but isn't the snowflake term reserved for the kids of parents who hover and overprotect their kids?  There seems to be a need for a term which is the opposite of snowflake.  But, at least subby didn't say they were a Darwin candidate

Strangely enough, around here Disney stores attempt to be mini Disneylands, with "cast members" and a little theatre in the back. If you don't leave them there, it's at least where you'll find them if they wander off. Also dates.

So the punishment for a 90 minute break from parenthood is a 2 week break from parenthood,

snark aside, that's kinda harsh is it judge?

Damn, when I was younger than this, my parents left me in the lobby at Caesar's Palace for awhile (I don't even recall how long) while they went inside and gambled. Some nice lady gave me a "gold" medallion with the Caesar's Palace logo on it, which I still have to this day.

I think the "petit" theft warrant had more to do with it.  The child endangerment charge was just a bonus.

If you build a store out Lego people are likely to mistake it for a playground.

So she had the child when she was 37? I know this type. They finally get pregnant when they realize their life is a horrible imitation of a meaningless life. They fill the void. With a child. And then decide to skip responsibilities as the child approaches the age of ten. Pathetic members of the mommy clan.

How dare they tell a mother how to raise her own child. She's a mother for cripes sake. The employees are just jelly because they don't have a job as rewarding as her's.

Derwood: But apparently my YMCA is a babysitter for every family in town, as the pool is always full of about 100 kids with no parents anywhere to be seen

When I was a lifeguard for the City of L.A., it was generally accepted that our pools were de facto summertime daycare for hordes of kids. It was no coincidence that we opened within days of the last day of school, and closed right before the first. In certain low-income areas the city would even provide free lunches for the kids as an extension of the school lunch program.

Getting a kick because I used to work in a Lego store and told kids all the time they couldn't be in there without a parent.  Most just left but every now and then I got to tell an angry indignant mother (never a father) that we weren't a day care and if they didn't like it I could tell them where the mall security kiosk was because that's where they'd be picking up their kid next time.

It looks like a case of brown people's problems.

2014-08-06 11:55:44 PM
This is not new. Back in the 9th I managed a FuncoLand, and there were plenty of parents who dropped off their kids in the morning, treating the store like a daycare. I had to sic security once because a mother came into the store at the end of her work day,  looking for her kid who had left hours earlier.  She yelled at us and threatened us because we failed to keep an eye on her child... This was after parking outside and honking over and over... she was the one who called security to "report" us. She didn't seem to get that security's job was to protect us from unruly customers. The security guy looked at me and said, "what do you want me to do with her?" and I said "get her out of this store."

She  was cursing as she was dragged out.

Her kid was back a few days later. The mother apparently did not learn anything.

I don't know about other YMCAs but the one I grew up with had a lounge area with a wall of windows so parents could at least glance at their kids every now and again to make sure they hadn't drowned.

I'm not sure that it's any more dangerous now that in the past for kids.  It's just such a big deal now with the intrawebs and amber alerts that it seems a much scarier place.  Your comment is a perfect example.  You suspect this woman wanted her kid kidnapped and buttsecksed just because she thought the Lego store would babysit him.  Relax, no one wants to abduct your little booger-blaster.

Maybe kids should become property of a store or mall if you leave them there for more than 2 hours alone.
