Man, if my kid was in that class I'd pull them out so fast it would make their head spin.

Hopefully some sort of backlash occurs here cos using Rush Limbaugh's revisionist history kid's books in classes kinda defeats hte whole purpose of getting an education.

"For people like Obama and Eric Holder, I believe-and there will never be any way to prove this because they would never admit this- but I believe that there is a genuine, long held, deeply felt contempt for the Constitution. And it's all about slavery," he said. "... That's the chip on their shoulder."

Christ, what an asshole.

I feel like there's a pretty solid correlation between how wingnut crazy someone is and how quickly they bring up Eric Holder as the bad guy.

A friend's daughter was playing with one of her teachers by writing papers from a radical left point of view. The teacher took it seriously and was impressed. The reverse technique could be useful here. Play a dittohead in class, get extra credit.

Remember:

Obama broadcasting a message to schoolkids telling them to work hard in school - Indoctrination.

A teacher using Rush's White-Washed history book - Not indoctrination.

FFS.

There must be some kind of internet law wherein the more you try to call someone an idiot on the internet the greater chances rise that you will misspell "idiot" in that post.

I don't think he's a super-villain, but I think he certainly fits in well with the string of AGs we've had over the past 15 years.

It's called Muphry's Law.

It's a pretty piss-poor teacher who gives an introduction to the civil war and doesn't once mention slavery.  And that's completely separate from the fact that she used Rush Limbaugh's grifter Founding Father's erotic fanfiction as source material.

Its been a long time since I was in 3rd grade- is slavery and the civil war appropriate for third graders? and just how much detail do we get into?

I'd love to know what alternative book she passed over to make room for Rush.

Didn't Limbaugh's book win an award for being the best children's book?  Whatever "alternative book" that was passed over to make room for Rush, it was not the best children's book.  Go with the best.

There is a specific mission, and, you know, trying to write books that will be liked and enjoyed by 10- to 13-year-olds, your age-group, that's something I've never done before.

Third grade. Some of the happiest four years of Rush's life.

Nominees are determined by how many copies their books sell, but winners are picked by kids, who vote online.

Seems legit.

It didn't win an award for being the most educational children's book. And furthermore it probably didn't win an award for "best" anything.

Other than having them loudly proclaim that they're a libertarian, do you know of a good way to confirm that someone on the internet is actually a child?

This woman does not.

So your comparison is totally unfair to North Korea.

On the other hand, while the incompatibility of slavery with America's founding documents...

Except, you know, the parts of our founding documents that expressly account for slavery? Say, things like Art. I, Sec. 2?

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

Or Art. IV, Sec. 2, which requires escaped slaves to be returned to their masters:

No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due.
