It's a meat that doesn't need to be refrigerated, and in a pinch it can be eaten without cooking it.  Handy thing to have in an emergency.

Wish I had something like that.  The sum total of my apocalyptic preparations is when something threatens like a snowstorm or bad weather, I charge up the batteries for the lanterns and radios.

Even if this article wasn't about the islands that fell in love with WW2-era MREs, SPAM makes a lot of sense for an emergency food supply even if it does taste like pig taint.

Honolulu was just listed as one of the 10 healthiest places to live in the US.

United Health Foundation also ranked Hawaii as the healthiest state in the US, with a "low prevalence of smoking and obesity".

Hawaii is also ranks in the top 10 states for having the lowest rates of diabetes and hypertension.

Only if it is THROUGH 89 and not just to 89. To, doesn't imply that 89 is included in the measurement. I think that's the niggling detail being harped on.

This.  It's not the tastiest thing unheated, but it's by far not the most disgusting.

Also it's so greasy you can light it on fire and it'll basically cook itself.  Might be a little charred but it beats it being cold.

Mea Culpa - I am referring to ethnic Hawaiians, not the state as a whole.  Should have been more spific.
