Sounds like a home invasion, which would invoke Castle Doctrine not Stand Your Ground.  But since the resident wouldn't let the cops in and it is Florida it probably involves Meth or Coke.

Probably not possible.  From what I understand, Sanford is the home of exclusive gated communities.  It takes real money to live 20 miles outside of Orlando.

For perhaps the first time in history, the COMMENTS ON TFA are a pretty good place to get the real deal on this story.  No evidence of anyone standing ground, defending their castle, or anything other than one guy with some holes in him not being interested in the police rifling through his place or pestering the guys that were teaching him a lesson.

There were signs of forced entry through the front door, according to Shannon Cordingly, Sanford Police spokeswoman.
"We are waiting for a search warrant to be signed before we can enter the home," Cordingly said.

So, there is a reasonable possibility that there could be another shooting victim in the house, but they have to wait for a warrant?

The f*ck???

That was the joke.  Possibly one of the most misrepresented terms in modern American is "gated community" as a synonym for wealth.  It was rampant in the Krylon and Zimmaster Z saga.

This. It doesn't take money to live in Sanford. It takes some money to live in Lake Mary, and a lot of money to live in Heathrow.

Learning actual facts may diminish the viability of an argument based upon an emotional appeal. The best arguments are those formulated before any significant information is learned, thus freeing them of any constraints of facts or reality.

Becoming?

Subby, Sanford has for years hence blown the grading curve for violent crime per capita even for Florida. Which is really saying something since Florida is among the worst violent crime states in the nation. And sanford makes Florida look bad.

Regardless of your feelings about zimmerman, there is a factual reason why people set up neighborhood watches in Sanford.

Yeah we realized through testimony during trial that race was a factor with Trayvon. Cause that cracker Zimmerman needed some whoopass cause he might have been gay.

Not only was Trayvon a racist but he was into bashing gays too.

Tom_Slick: Sounds like a home invasion, which would invoke Castle Doctrine not Stand Your Ground.

Well no, not exactly, as these are not separate things.

Florida Statute
776.013
(3) A person who is attacked in his or her dwelling, residence, or vehicle has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and use or threaten to use force, including deadly force, if he or she uses or threatens to use force in accordance with s.776.012(1) or (2) or 776.031(1) or (2)

Stand your ground is not an actual law/statute, it's just wording used in self defense laws. Had someone wanted to be whimsical it could have been the right to "plant your feet" or "not back down". Pretty much the same thing with Castle Doctrine.

If someone read the unedited transcript and decide that a volunteer followed around, and ultimately called the cops on somebody who was walking alone at night, and the fact that the person was black wasn't a factor at all, I'd strongly question their reading comprehension.

Look, I'll give you that the ultimate facts very well may absolve Zimmerman of a crime, but that doesn't mean he didn't unnecessarily instigate the situation.

Yes, some states have " no duty to retreat" laws and some have "outrun your spouse" laws. Run away!, run away!!, run away!!! is a good self defense strategy if you live in a Monty Python movie, in real life it just gets you shot in the back.

There are limitations to Castle Doctrine for people that live in your home and invited guests.  Ultimately, however, since one side of the argument usually ends up in the morgue, the person deciding whether it applied typically gets to shape the narrative on how things went down.

Yeah, like that home invader in Cali that ran away from the old homeowner after beating his ass.  She most assuredly got herself shot in the back in an alley.   Not that castle doctrine extends to shooting fleeing criminals outside your home, but she did exemplify your point.
