(Sun Sentinel)   HOA continues to try and remove a therapy pig from their community, thereby destroying the mental stability of a small child and ripping a family apart because in their minds, not even that is worth bending a rule   (sun-sentinel.com) divider line 286

Some pig.

2014-08-06 08:27:10 AM
Confiscate the pig and use it in a neighborhood pig roast. That will bring everyone together for some healing.

I wouldn't want a rapy pig in my neighborhood either.

I don't think I give two craps about the therapy pig or this HOA or anybody in it. But when did getting an ADHD diagnosis become a "disability"?

When you can find a doctor that will let you keep your pig.

Therapy Pig!
Therapy Pig!
Does whatever a therapy pig does!
Can he swing the HOA?
No he can't
He's a pig
Lookout!
He is the therapy pig!!

2014-08-06 09:05:26 AM
Can you blame them?  Who would want to live a neighborhood with those filthy animals?  I say they should have those HOA members destroyed.

That'll do HOA.....that'll do...

How lovely.  20 minutes North from me.

Two retarded children with a white trash family and a potbellied pig?  If there was one thing an HOA would be incorporated for, I would think it would be this thing.

From TFA:
Letters from doctors saying both the Halpern children have been diagnosed with ADHD, and one with Asperger's, do not provide enough information, Aboud said. He said he is still trying to investigate whether the Halpern children have "handicaps" that might require an exception to the neighborhood's rule banning livestock.

Um....so when did lawyers become more qualified than doctors to make decisions on the level of a child's handicap?

On the one hand I hate HOAs... on the other hand I think defining ADHD as a disability is ludicrous (and I say that as the father of a child diagnosed with ADHD). So... kill them all?

I was gonna say, if the mental stability of a small child is going to be destroyed by removing a "therapy pig", that kid is going to be catatonic when he finds out what "bacon", "pork chops" and "ham" technically are. Best let him have the breakdown now before he gets old enough to operate heavy machinery or acquire automatic weapons.

2014-08-06 10:37:01 AM
This couple is going to be mighty disappointed when they learn that a pig is not covered by the ADA. Only dogs. And a "therapy" dog is specifically excluded. The pig's going to go.

2014-08-06 10:37:31 AM
Why the hell don't people get 'therapy dogs' or 'therapy cats'?

How far out of their way did these folks have to go to get a 'therapy pig'?

Many doctors have sold their qualifications (and integrity) down the river a long time ago for a few bucks. Taking what a single doctor says at face value is quaint.

I'm torn here because I really dislike HOAs but I cannot figure out the rationale for the pig. How exactly does a service animal help with ADHD and since when is ADHD a disability?

2014-08-06 10:39:05 AM
I can see ADHD as requiring handicap plates.  I have to park near the doors, or I might get distracted on the way into the mall and wander into the highway median.

/me rolls eyes

It is a legal issue.  If the HOA "bends" this rule, it risks having it thrown in its face the next time some residents want to bend another rule.  Lesson:  Don't live in a community with a mandatory HOA.  This family presumably signed up for it (or at least moved into the neighborhood with constructive notice as to the existence of the HOA); if they don't like it, they can move.

/No, you're retarded little snowflakes don't get you out of your contractual obligations.

The great thing about being a lawyer is that you're more qualified than anyone on any subject when you want to be.

Therapy Bacon > Therapy Pig.

HOA wins, kid wins, everyone wins.

Except for the pig I guess.

Well, some of us have allergies to the saliva and such that Cats/Dogs get on their fur, which then gets on my skin and then causes severe rashes, break outs, sneezing fits, swelling of the eyes/throat, etc.

So, yeah, some of us (as much as we like Dogs and Cats) simply can't be around them w/o incurring another medical problem.

can't the parents just adopt the pig and make it their third child? it does bear a remarkable resemblance to them.

They didn't, they got a pig because it was cute and it probably was as a 5 pound piglet.   Then the HOA caught on when a 100 pound pig was running around, and now they need some reason to not tell their kids they farked up.

My local HOA-hole came over to my house this weekend within a minute of the Dish van pulling up. I got permission to install the dish years ago, but she wanted to make sure I wasn't having a second one installed. I just needed it repointed.

She literally greeted me with the words, "I thought we'd been over this."

She lucky I can't use my thoughts to make people explode.

Well, the drug addiction thingie leads to disability. The Nanny out front should have told you.
All that Adderal meth they hand out if you don't sit nice and quiet is fortunately not altering young developing minds, "The Children!".

You peeps want something to do today, go do something to evidence your displeasure at your government addicting your kids to meth.

It seems like a pet would be more of a distraction for an ADHD kid with all the cleaning, grooming, exercising, and affection they require.

According to the ADA, that's your problem, not the disabled person's.

Sounds like you could use a therapy animal due to your crippling allergic reactions to therapy animals.

/It's a vicious cycle.
