Anyone know why the details of that article were repeated?  Is that a thing over there?  And even at that, I don't know if the guy is actually going to serve jail time.  I know the judge said he "should" and the he "was led to the cells", but is that for a week, a year, or ten years?

Me either. Always a little tinny or something. Gawd awful.

Haven't read the article yet but based on the headline alone this guy should prolly do a little time purely for achieving criminal levels of stupidity even it was legitimately an "accident".

Judgey Judge was being kind of a dick, if you ask me.  But at least we know the perp was wearing a "smart black suit."  I'll bet he was fetching!

Is that show any good? I like Hammond.

6 months but I had to go to the Guardian to get that information.

Seems excessive for a guy who made some explosives with friends 8 years ago, once, and seemed to be normal dude after (and before, and during) that time.

I think there's a little "we need to make an example of this guy" kind of motivation going on here.

Yeah. That totally works.

I still want to make a forge in my back yard (I live in a city) and playing with explosives is a normal part of life for me. This just gives the judge and prosecutor good press.

I ate a shiat-ton of them in college. I stopped when the bathroom smelled like someone was cooking them in there whenever I took a piss.

What used to be considered dangerous but otherwise unremarkable weekend fun X years ago is now considered terrorist activity and a serious felony.

\Never did it myself for anyone out there recording these comment.

Yeah looks like the judge was just being a dick and making an example of the guy. 6 months for a working man with kids and no harm or intent for something so stupid seems a bit much. Id go probation and fines/ fees or a month in jail max.

Judge Michael Roach told the stock controller that those "reckless enough" to build such devices - despite not having a sinister motive - should go to prison.

Because there's no difference between wanting to kill someone and screwing around with your buds.

As Thomas, who wore a smart black suit, was led to the cells, the judge told him: "What a sad day for your family."

If only their was some way to weigh the facts and the motives involved in each case.  A person in a position of authority, who's called on to make a judgement of sort.

WTF, they evacuated 80 homes because of a pipe bomb?  Did they think it was a nuclear pipe bomb with a 1KM radius of total destruction?

2014-08-05 08:34:00 PM
at least he didn't leave it in the garage. Then it's be "ut oh, better get Maaco"

Or at the ice rink. "ut oh, better get the Qik Joe!"

For anyone not RTFAing, this is in the UK.  I doubt US justice would be very nice on him unless he was connected well socially or a LEO.

Bristol Crown Court were told that Thomas separated from his wife in 2010 and on August 17 last year, she decided to clear out his shed - but wasn't expecting what she found.

She could not call him and ask him WTF have you left in the shed.  I guess they didn't divorce on good terms.

I am sorry but he was 32 years old when making pipe bombs, I made them at 14 and knew to hide the evidence and not keep them on the premises.

I would think a 32 year old guy would have better shiat to do.

You've inspired me to take an empty cardboard box, write "Not an Antimatter Bomb" on it, and leave it in a random location. Might make national news!

Eighty homes close to the shed, described as being in a "built-up area", were evacuated for five hours while an Army bomb disposal squad used a robotic device to examine the sports bag.

What a bunch of over-reactive pansies.

Dude, don't light the fuse. Toss that bastard in the back of the squad car, take it to the station, unscrew the cap, dump the powder, toss the pipe in the trash. How hard is that?

Imagine Top-Gear meets Mythbusters. It was quite a fun show as long as you didn't take it seriously. Shame it got cancelled.

The "walking on custard" clip they showed on Mythbusters was from Brainiac.
