I thought the war was over there.  They were in a training facility.
So, yeah, this more or less falls under the heading of an assassination.  Sort of.  It's really more like a suicide attack where the attacker got REALLY lucky with their target.

2014-08-05 02:21:10 PM
Well, here we go.

2014-08-05 02:21:12 PM
Did they get our #2?

The highest ranking American officer to be killed especially when it is during a training by a Afghan solider is probably news worthy.

Fark used to be quick on the breaking news with newsflashes. I'm sure tomorrow we'll get a newsflash about a Bieber/Bloom catfight...

Completely uncalled for.

The problem is in trying to deal with Afghanistan as a country.  It's not, no matter what the lines on the map say.  You can't overcome centuries of tribalism and hatred with democratic elections.  The solution to places like Iraq and Afghanistan is to take them back to chiefdoms, much smaller governing units, and then let them slowly integrate over generations.  Or not integrate.  But at least not suicide bomb each other because of a lack of voice in government.

The Taliban have a spokesman? How is that guy not dead?

2014-08-05 02:24:45 PM
We've got more.

2014-08-05 02:24:45 PM
Kabul was, under the Taliban, Afghanistan's second city. Under Gaddafi, Benghazi was Libya's second city. And Obama considers Chicago, long known as "the Second City," as his home. Coincidence? I think not!

STUDY. IT. OUT.

2014-08-05 02:24:49 PM
I can't help but think this is Obama's fault

Infernalist: Is it terrible of me that I'm glad it wasn't a foot soldier that died?

Nobody should have died, because nobody should be there. But hey, if someone HAS to die... might as well be someone who's family is going to live extravagantly from it for the rest of all their lives. Instead of some poor schmoe who's family is gonna struggle after the money runs out.

Look for this general to be added to the next version of the list of people assassinated by Obama - coming to an email inbox near you.

The General should have been in the War Room. There's no fighting in the War Room.

It's interesting to see all the glib comments here. It's a clear indication that the US populace have no more patience for war. Which is great.

2014-08-05 02:26:28 PM
Why didn't Obama scramble a squadron of F22s to intercept the assassin as soon as he flinched? Why weren't the marines called in to protect this general? Why wasn't Delta Force a good movie? Who knew what when and why, and how can this blamed on whoever runs for President in 2016?

/ just asking questions

I wager three hours before a sitting GOP member of Congress blames this on Obama.
