I'm former Army and I love the Marine Corp.  They are my favorite form of self propelled bullet absorbing sand bag.  Nobody can take a dug in position better than the Marines can- and they've proved it over and over again.

The Marines hit the beach, they attack, take massive causalities, then the smarter Army guys follow, clean up the place and get credit in the newspaper's and media for doing all the hard work.

I feel like if you're going to have an argument like that where someone gets their throat cut, both of you probably should have been in either group.

Given that these gentlemen had criminal histories, that probably isn't true.

The interesting thing is when I was asking around about what service those I knew in the service (couple soldiers, couple marines, and a seaman) would have joined given another chance, they all said the Air Force.

Watch Fox News much, soldier? They never report about the Army when they can polish Marine knob instead. Some jarhead on leave brings a piece into Mexico and gets locked up and they're 24-7 on him. Think they'd give a shiat about some dogface - combat vet or no?

How the fark do you spell "causality" correctly, but use it in the wrong way? That takes talent.

/Marines haven't assaulted a defended beach since 1950, at Inchon. They have helicopters and hovercraft now, they no longer need to do that.

Those must have been boring guys. The Air Force is the most pleasant workplace, in the shiattiest locations. It's great if you want to shuffle papers in Minot, North Dakota.

When I told my dad that I wanted to join the military, he told me to join either the Air Force or the Navy because the food is better and you always have a bunk to sleep in.

Duh, obvious answer is Marines. Though I may be a bit bias, since i was myself a Marine for almost 10 years. I mean come on, even our uniforms look better! We have 2 distinct cammie colors, the army has one. Where the fark are they trying to blend into? In Iraq I saw their uniforms a mile away. Plus our training is longer and better, and we don't feel the need to display silly patches and insignia that show our MOS designation since we as marines are all riflemen first before our MOS.

That's because Marine Corps public affairs, like the rest of the Marine Corps, is active, aggressive and fearless. Army public affairs consists of losers who failed at some other Army job, and they're terrified of making their boss look bad, so they don't allow the press the access the Marines give them.

The Navy has all that on shore duty, and liberty in Perth, Palma de Mallorca, and Singapore when deployed. Your argument is invalid.

/Navy is the toughest to stay married in during peacetime, because of the long deployments. But you actually do see the world, and not just the sandy parts where people hate you.

The navy got the marines, and the army got the K-9 corps.
The army got 1st pick.

Nah, I've been in the Navy Reserve for 30 years, and worked with a LOT of Army commands, including deployments in the U.S. and Iraq. The Army is a farking miserable place to be an officer. Just a bad, top-down, negatively-reinforced, zero-defect culture, which assumes the average enlisted man is a moron. The Marines is a much better place in terms of work satisfaction and morale, but you need to be more athletic than I am. The Air Force is the best work environment, but most of their bases are in godawful boring locations in the middle of nowhere.

Most of the air cover in Iraq and Afghanistan is provided by Marine and Navy pilots flying from carriers.

That's such a sad article. To an ignorant outsider like myself it just seems such a damn shame that two equally dignified roles would do each other such damage. Having said that, my boyfriend is ex navy and when we go shopping I try to not look at his sneer as he sees little army cadets running around trying to recruit teenagers with their coolness. I don't understand it, I don't get it, I think both are doing a job I could never even imagine doing and yay to them.

2014-08-05 03:29:57 PM
Hmm. If I know my stereotypes it's "stupid fratboy drones VS people too stupid to get into the other armed forces". Meh, how about neither one wins, and we all agree that anyone who signs up to kill other human beings for money is very low on the goodness rankings?

2014-08-05 03:30:22 PM
It's an argument that only matters, and only has an answer to the testosterone fueled teenage kids who are trying to decide which branch of service to go into.  Really, in modern days, the Marines just do the same exact thing that the army does, but with a bigger PR budget and a silent drill team.
