Downfall of this idea: it would require smokers to actually put their butts in urns instead of throwing them in gardens, lawns, the sidewalk, or out their car windows.

That's simply too much to ask someone that has 10-15 minutes of every workday hour to spare at the smoking pad.

Or just skip the whole cigarette part and manufacture what you need.

Sweet. We can easily collect tons of them at all of the traffic lights in Maryland where the jackasses throw them out of their windows.

There's never a funeral home nearby when you need one.

Hell, when I was a kid we used cigarette butts as bait to catch bluegills!

Here's the thing... I read about this about 10 years ago... they use the extracted nicotine to treat metals and make them better for the job at hand... some kind of chemistry thing. Somebody misread the situation when China said they wanted to stomp our butts...

But can they build a working radio out of coconuts?  (Maybe someday they'll show "Gilligan's Island"
repeats on Korean TV.)

We all took a vote.  There were some very good arguments in favor of depositing the butts in a proper receptacle, or even keeping a baggie in my pocket and taking them with me until I found a trash can or got home, but after reviewing the evidence and your posts we've universally decided to switch back to flicking them into the street just to annoy you.

This. It's amazing to see a mountain of cigarettes - SITTING ON THE GROUND AROUND THE BASE OF THE COLLECTION THING THEY PUT OUT THERE FOR JUST THAT PURPOSE. Honestly, it just kindof reaks of "Well, society picks on smokers. Let's act like 12 year olds and passive aggressively fight back as only a lazy asthmatic can..."

How about using them to create food for your Best Korea neighbors to the north?

Wow. Did a smoker put a butt out in your eye as a wee lad or something?
