I'm not that familiar with Thai dishes.  What's in Thai Junta Ban again?

Also banned is the movie Repo Man and its soundtrack.

Ah yes,  Tropico.  The game that teaches kids a moral lesson that a dictatorship will always fail, because you are not very good at it.

2014-08-05 11:07:51 AM
That government fears John Oliver and Tropico 5.

What a shiatty government.

Tropico, also known as the only good city building simulator since SimCity 3000.

Whatever happened to the good city simulators anyway?

Tropico! Holy crap, I'd renounce my citizenship if my government banned Tropico.

Yep.

I've heard rumors there are some decent ones that don't get a lot of press.

And to be honest, I actually find myself preferring the old ones a lot of the time.  I liked simcity 2k more than 3k.  Not that 3k was bad.

I just picked up 4 through Humble Bundle.

My big complaint is it is through Steam AND yet I still had to create yet another account with a publisher.

Anno 2070 got me a while back with that one too.  That game I end up spending more time managing trade routes and the general economy than any sort of military or city building.

I've not played the others, but Tropico 1 stirs the memories.

I wasn't very popular. I believed the people should work for damn near free, but I didn't like the scrap metal shacks they built all over my nice beaches, so I had them bulldozed. Rent might have also been a little high (to inspire them to do more work for the good of the people!) Well the people started getting all biatchy and demanding elections. I was getting tired of rebels blowing things up, so I agreed. Much to my surprise, I found the people were against me, their beloved leader. Like 85% of them wanted someone other than their eternal president of the democratic people's republic of Gofarkyourselfistan.

So during the campaign season I had the guy running against me jailed for crimes against the people. (He was walking on the wrong side of the road). Then some other asshole decided to run against me. I had him jailed as well. Then another thought he'd try his luck. Hope he likes jail. The 4th guy I just had shot on the street. As well as the 5th guy. Number six was jailed to spice things up a bit, and number 7 went back to being shot. Number 8 I had jailed, then released him and had him shot as he exited the prison. You'd think these guys would learn. They didn't. This continued up to the day of the election. I literaly had the competition shot like 3 hours before the polls open, and some random guy steps up and decides HE'S gonna run for el presidente. He won. Some guy who decided to run like 3 hours before the polls opened won over me. He didn't even have time for a  radio ad, as far as most people knew, he was just a name who wasn't me. And I lost to that.

Next think I know I am put out to sea on a small dingy with no supplies except for a suitcase of some of my clothes.

Ungrateful bastards. After all the high end hotels I built for you, so you could see what fat white people look like like. This is the thanks I get?

3k? Seriously you guys? Get sim city 4. It came out in like 2004 for farks sake. It's the best city builder to date and is totally customizable with lots of unofficial add ins and no dlc bullshiat.

I was removed from office. by the US Marine Corps. Should have taken the Soviets up on their military base offer.
The people loved me and the way I waved my dick at the USA. But all the cigars and rum I produced couldn't keep the Yanquis from invading.

SimCity 4 + Network Addon Mod.

It took a bit to get used to the better transportaion selections the NAM addes, but once I did.... I had a huge city with limited traffic issues.

Seriously, they improved the pathfinding and traffic algorithims, had bug fixes, and one of my favorite road pieces, the avenue with the bus stop right on it.  No more wasted space for a single square bus stop!

Turn off your internet and play in offline mode.  It doesn't try to make you log in to Kalypso's system; it just plays the game.
