He may get away with this argument if he has enough money because of one reason.

He should have stuck with an insanity defense.

Hmm...maybe he kind of did.

Christ, what a dick.

2014-08-05 09:05:26 AM
The "pointed" part seems to be in some dispute. Police say he pointed it at the woman while he removed the gun from his shoulder, he says that didn't happen. In either case, it doesn't seem to be part of his "political statement" - rather, carrying the gun in the airport was the statement.

2014-08-05 09:07:16 AM
So a woman says that he pointed the rifle at her and her daughter.  He's all like "noooo... I didn't aim at anyone."  Even if he wasn't sighted in, center of mass, however, if he raised the rifle in a public accommodation then he's really got to stop throwing out the "responsible gun owner" bullsh*t.  Sorry buddy, but yanking on that smokewagon in a crowded room is quite equivalent to yelling "fire!"

But he hasn't even been charged, so who am I to judge?  He's a better man than I am... a PhD and a gun owner.

2014-08-05 09:08:01 AM
That statement is, "I want to be imprisoned so that I can pretend it's because of my beliefs!"

2014-08-05 09:08:58 AM
Yeah, we got that the second you did it.

It doesn't make you less of an asshat.

I bet you call out the answers in Wheel of Fortune, too.

This is why you can't allow scientists to arm themselves! Where does it all end?!

Well, at least we've found another one of those elusive irresponsible gun owners.

Climate Change Death Camps, duh.

Gun "advocates" have done more in the last two years to convince of the merits of gun control than every gun control advocate I've heard speak since Hinckley's attempt on Reagan.

2014-08-05 09:13:33 AM
Isn't he the scientist that denies climate change?

If you can't trust the "authorities" who can you trust?

He's an idiot, but the rest of the story sounds like something written by Dan Rather.

Don't slap leather unless you're going to throw down.  It's not brain surgery, Mr. Neuroscientist.

In his vague defense, it's sounding like it wasn't so much 'pointed' at her as 'passed over her as he unlimbered it'.  Which, either way is kind of a fail.  Unless you're planning to shoot them the dangerous end of the bangstick shouldn't be looking them in the eye ever.

2014-08-05 09:14:36 AM
At least it wasn't a terrorist water bottle.

He was just trying to educate people.

Jesus Christ, Sgt Potato, were those the teaching techniques you picked up at med school?

I hope his next educational endeavor is teaching about the dangers of hand feeding Bengal tigers by putting on a meat suit and heading to the zoo.

C'mon guys, we're supposed to just blindly assume that people carrying guns are totally responsible and have no ill intent. He's normalizing things for us, we're the crazy ones.

"elusive"?

If only there was some sort of security footage of the event.

Dear morons:
Morons like you and this guy are going to get open carry banned in even right wing states.

What gets me the most about these guys is how unrepentant liars they are when they're in front of a camera.   On camera, they'll spout this is all about gun rights and etc etc.  In private, they brag about how much they pissed off the libs and scared all the gun grabbers and how pussies the cops are.

CSB:
There was a guy that was part of a gaming/Counterstrike community that I was in who did this shiat.  He'd brag and "keep score on his blog about all his police encounters and talk about how happy it made him that people got scared.  Finally he got an opportunity to talk to reporters about how he's doing this because he loves the Constitution and etc etc.

After that aired, I emailed the reporter a link to his blog and forum posts where he bragged about scaring people and talked about how he makes people wet their pants when they see his gun.  After the news station contacted him as a followup with questions on these statements, he disappeared.  We haven't seen him online in a good five years now.

Damn pussy assed nuts make things worse for the rest of us gun owners.

The political statement he may have made is: I am a person who lacks the level of sanity and judgement making necessary to own guns.

2014-08-05 09:23:10 AM
You have the right to be an asshole.  The founders never stated that fully, figuring that the
first amendment would imply that.

Unfortunately, you have a bunch of mouth breathers who think that right arises from the second amendment.

2014-08-05 09:23:54 AM
I'm not sure why the sight of this nut job brandishing a gun in an airport would cause someone else with a gun to take him down in self-defense.

2014-08-05 09:24:09 AM
"He told a news conference he believed the airport was a good place to make such a statement."

and this guy is a neuroscientist?

He's lucky he didn't end up arrested for terroristic activity.
INAL, but if you brag about scaring people with your weapons in open public, you are literally purposely terrorizing them.

Just sayin...

Shame on this disturbed attention whore bringing his rifle to a public airport. Jerkhole. Now we have to put up with other attention whore idiots like the writer of TFA squawking the "news" that you pointed it at someone.

Sad there were no cameras in airport that could settle the dispute.

A true Conservative role model.

If he pointed his gun at someone during his "statement," the cops should have taken a 2nd amendment solution to this particular terrorist.

Steinmetz, who was arrested but not charged over the incident, said he was asserting his Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and not endangering anyone.

Asserting his Second Amendment right  includes pointing loaded weapons at people?

"Brain scientist"

Raw Srory never loads on mobile, but that's what the URL says. "Brain scientist."

I think I'm operating slightly above Raw Story's readership.
