Serious Black: fireclown: Serious Black: fireclown: He didn't actually suggest that the south american illegals actually HAD ebola, he mentioned that they could well have diseases (a legit concern) and used ebola as kind of a "worst possible thing" example.  I realize he's a republican and everything, but this is some pretty tepid stuff for this much outrage.  This is a guy filling in silences in a local radio show.

So instead of saying something that I'd hope almost everyone agrees with is an issue that needs resolution, he took off his pants, put them on his head, coated them with gasoline, and lit them on fire.

"He said, look, we need to know just from a public-health standpoint, with Ebola circulating and everything else -- no, that's my addition to it, not necessarily his -- but he said we need to know the condition of these kids," Rokita said. "

Yeah. That's some fire-breathing lunacy right there.

He could have said TB was a concern. He could have said measles was a concern. He could have said virtually any communicable disease was a concern. I agree that the kids coming to our border need to be screened. But why the flying fark did he have to throw in Ebola? When he's talking about a disease that has never once been contracted anywhere in the Western Hemisphere being a huge public health concern, yes, that is lunacy.

It's like when Republicans talk about women's reproduction...they just don't know where on the 'crazy and ignorant' spectrum to stop talking...

Wyalt Derp: "He said, look, we need to know just from a public-health standpoint, with Ebola circulating and everything else -- no, that's my addition to it, not necessarily his -- but he said we need to know the condition of these kids," Rokita said.

So is he going to put forward a bill to pay for more doctors and nurses for the increased level of medical screening that he wants to see?

No, here's what he's going to do:

He's going to demand that everyone gets turned back at the border.
So they don't come through again, he is going to demand that they are all processed so we know their names.
He is also going to demand that all of the children already here in the US get sent back immediately.

Then, he is going to go home at night, dislocate his rotator cuff patting himself on the back, and sleep the sleep of the just(plain stupid) because he also called for less government waste at the border, since nobody needs medical screening if they're just going home. He won't spend a single second thinking about the contact the people at the border will have with these people before sending them on their way.

Thanks for the data.  I would have thought TB would have been worse in Central America. I'm pleasantly surprised.

It is significantly worse than in the U.S. or Canada.

The incidence rates (new cases per 100,000 people) of regular TB are worse in Central America (about 50 in Honduras and Guatemala, compared to around 4 in the US).  However, that's still relatively low (compare to, for example, 970 in South Africa, or 231 in Pakistan).  The prevalence (number of people infected) is higher in the US for both regular and drug-resistant TB.

Weird how a phrase starts on the internet and it thrown around the world so fast.

These are comments from a documentary the local news station did about children crossing the border.
http://www.wral.com/the-journey-alone/13857882/

"says a lot about how secure our boarders really are. Little boys and girls can just walk right across. Al Qaeda, Taliban, Hamas, ect I'm sure are paying attention. Ebola carriers??? No reason to secure our boarders."

"These "children" didn't just wander 1200 miles from Central America they had help. Help that came from several places. The Dream act, an open invitation to just come on over and set a spell at the US expense.

Some of these "children" are actually gang members from Mexico..Some are from Qatar, Syria, Yemen. Are some now from Liberia and Sierra Leona? We don't know who or what is coming across the border.
Read more at "

"It's not a "journey alone." They're being sent with "coyotes" - human smugglers. The children are only a small fraction of those crossing. Customs & Border Protection has reported apprehending people from over 75 countries recently, including areas from the Ebola outbreak and known terrorist nations. The focus is on the children to generate sympathy, but there's a MUCH larger problem that's being ignored."

I love this game. You take two totally unrelated current event stories and put them together to further your own agenda. We clearly need to join Israel in squashing Hamas. There are no depths to which Hamas won't stoop. In fact, you can't rule out their involvement in leaving US children in cars with the windows up on sweltering hot summer days. Won't somebody think of the children!?!

Thanks for the data.  I would have thought TB would have been worse in Central America. I'm pleasantly surprised.

It is significantly worse than in the U.S. or Canada.

Important to consider: the people fleeing crime and poverty are more likely than the average populations of those countries to carry untreated disease. They live is below average conditions with lower access to health care.. It would not matter if Mexico had the same rate as America, disease is still an issue.

I am sure someone will call me racist for that.

The vaccination rate in Central America is comparable to that of the United States.
But bacterial infections spread by crowded conditions and exacerbated by poor nutrition and poor shelter are likely to be higher in these would-be immigrants/migrants/refugees/etc.

How much detail?

I can label all fifty states. I cannot give capitals for many of them.

My knowledge of state borders has little effect on my life. The same goes for my lack of capital memorization.

As for wasting time: it would be almost impossible to spend more time looking up the capital of georgia (yes I know it) than it would take to memorize it in the first place. That is the folly of excessive rote memorization.

Not at all related to the observation.  The fact is, if you read the headlines in the politics thread, over 90% read as if posted by a liberal. I read a great article on this awhile back. People in Europe don't really know jack about the US(Yeah, they know that Texas is full of "cowboys", and stuff like that), but they know all about Europe. The US is bigger than Europe. The point was that people in the US have comparable geographical knowledge to Europeans who can cross 3 countries in a day. It was rather interesting.

Friction8r: CheapEngineer: Purdue_Pete: I hate defending a Tea Part nutjob, but that is 100% not what he said at all. He basically was saying "with everything we have going on globally (including an Ebola outbreak) placing 1000's unchecked children into out local communities is a health risk. ALSO refugees are coming to the USA from Africa, Asia, etc through (not from) Central America.

That is in fact a valid worry - he should have never used the word Ebola though.... and he's still a dillweed that shouldn't be in office.

Referencing a conversation he had with U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon, R-Newburgh, who is a heart surgeon, Rokita said they agreed there is a public health risk associated with the federal refugee agency placing immigrant children in the homes of U.S. relatives or sponsors.
"He said, look, we need to know just from a public-health standpoint, with Ebola circulating and everything else -- no, that's my addition to it, not necessarily his -- but he said we need to know the condition of these kids," Rokita said.

And I think the leaked report from the CBP was the source of his concern regarding Ebola:

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Texas/2014/08/03/Leaked-CBP-Repor t- Shows-Entire-World-Exploiting-Open-US-Border

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.

So yeah - there won't be backlash - he has a valid point on our now apparently completely open borders to the world. I am an extremely compassionate person, but we're farking up a lot of stuff lately.

Sorry, but Breitbart isn't s source, as much as a cesspool. I put more faith in things scratched in the paint of truckstop bathroom stalls.
