dwrash: Ebola... probably no.  But we do know they are bring other diseases like scabbies, measels, small pox, etc.

We should apprehend them all and put them in quarantine, like we used to do on Ellis Island, until we are sure they are safe to be moved elsewhere among the general public...

The southern influx of immigrants is already an environmental disaster, lets not allow it to become a public health disaster.

Smallpox no longer exists in humans.

I hate defending a Tea Part nutjob, but that is 100% not what he said at all. He basically was saying "with everything we have going on globally (including an Ebola outbreak) placing 1000's unchecked children into out local communities is a health risk. ALSO refugees are coming to the USA from Africa, Asia, etc through (not from) Central America.

That is in fact a valid worry - he should have never used the word Ebola though.... and he's still a dillweed that shouldn't be in office.

Referencing a conversation he had with U.S. Rep. Larry Bucshon, R-Newburgh, who is a heart surgeon, Rokita said they agreed there is a public health risk associated with the federal refugee agency placing immigrant children in the homes of U.S. relatives or sponsors.
"He said, look, we need to know just from a public-health standpoint, with Ebola circulating and everything else -- no, that's my addition to it, not necessarily his -- but he said we need to know the condition of these kids," Rokita said.

And I think the leaked report from the CBP was the source of his concern regarding Ebola:

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-Texas/2014/08/03/Leaked-CBP-Repor t- Shows-Entire-World-Exploiting-Open-US-Border

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.

So yeah - there won't be backlash - he has a valid point on our now apparently completely open borders to the world. I am an extremely compassionate person, but we're farking up a lot of stuff lately.

Right now some Wal-Mart-Generic-Mountain-Dew swilling chucklehut is breaking out his breakfast of Ding Dongs and Marlboro Lights, having this same exact thought. And in a couple days he's going to see this Stepford Congressman on TV saying the exact same thing, and the Toddmeister will have a voter for life.

I actually heard this on a quick trip to my grocery store friday night after work.  As I made my way through to the other side of the store (why do they keep the beer farthest from the door?), I quite literally heard "Obama letting all them mexicans in is what started this eboluuh stuff. We're all gonna get it now, it'll be in the schools before the end of the year".  It took nearly every fiber of my being to NOT stop and just have a meltdown on that person.

It's funny because even when they have a sensible concern they have to phrase it in the most idiotic way possible. You could say "I am concerned that these kids being placed in crisis foster homes might not have had the robust medical screening needed to protect the generous families taking them in"..hey throw a bone to your constituents and say "generous christian families".

Is it that they are phenomenally stupid or that they are knowingly exploiting the stupidity of their constituents?

I'll go with the 2nd. The reason being, if they were really stupid, they would not be able to consistently make financial decisions that always benefits them. Besides a few Todd Akin type comments, so me examples of their stupidity that actually hurt themselves.

Ebola is a "those people" disease. Americans get Tuberculosis, they don't get Ebola. Ebola is an African disease, so it's somehow scarier.

Kind of like how back in the 80s AIDS was a "queer disease". Never mind that it doesn't distinguish, and lots of straight drug abusers, unlucky blood donors and transfusion recipients got it, if you had AIDS you were one of "those people".

The person in NYC didn't cross the border, and nobody has suggested he or she an illegal alien.  It is just someone who flew in from West Africa.  possibly a West African tourist, or an American who went to West Africa for whatever reason.

And the virus has a maximum incubation rate of 21 days.  The people who cross the US/Mexico border spend a lot longer than that getting ready to cross.  They would have been dead before even reaching the border.
