Just looked at the pictures and captions... but... "Litchfield climbed a frozen, unstable metal ladder to get a killer shot of a decaying Communist monument."

What about her friend, who also climbed a frozen, unstable metal ladder to get a killer shot of Litchfield getting a killer shot of a decaying Communist monument?

"A photo shoot at a classified radar installation led to Litchfield's arrest by military officials who accused her of spying and threatened 15 years of prison for her transgression."

I guess if you have a classified radar installation, the best place to hide it would be someplace nobody would think to look... like in the torpedo room of a submarine.

Seriously, most of these are tame by Detroit standards:
Ruins of Detroit
The Pontiac Silverdome, which was in use as late as 2001.

My guess is that she used a tripod and second camera to get that shot.

Also, can anyone translate pic #3?

You missed downtown Sophia Bulgaria in the late 60s. Or Chernobyl today. Makes Detroit look fresh and shiny. Maybe when they move the capital back from Moskva to Kyiv they rebuild from the rubble. Of course Russians tend always to make Ukraine radioactive for some reason.

One that has clearly been decommissioned and looks as if it's a museum piece now.

I was about to say, I bet Detroit wished it looked that good.

If you poke around any place it ices hard in the winter you'll find similar objects of decay. The USSR just supplies so many because they're sites that were abandoned en masse, along with the ideology. It's all Ozymandias in the end.

Funny, almost exactly what I was thinking. Looks like the German bathhouse is holding up well; typical craftsmanship...

Some of those looked really HDR'd out (like the one of the train)... while it is visually striking, the effect just doesn't really feel like urban decay. Just because you CAN punch up the color and make it jump doesn't make it a good idea.

Nice shots though. That torpedo room looked pretty well kept- a museum sub, maybe?

Oh come on, Subby.  Detroit is in better shape than ever. See:

Just contract OCP to take 'em private, what could go wrong?

Unlike Detroit, no spray paint, broken glass, punched in walls looking for copper plumbing, arson, etc.

Yeah, because it's so original and clever to joke about detroit....  and it's gotten nothing but funnier since Kentucky Fried Movie did it 24 years ago.  Just look at the hellhole it's become...

better shape.)

Crime rate, 2013: 79 per 1000.
Population growth, from 2010 to 2013: -3.5%

A contracting universe is still failing, even if the center's still pretty. "Look - there are a few things that are still intact, if not vibrant, so that repudiates all other claims!" Sheesh.

Detroit, especially if you're not white & rich, is a cesspit. It's an expression of Hell, because, let's face it, Hell is us.

To make your stupid remark about Detroit you show a picture of Warsaw?
