You mean you don't already make donuts using coffee instead of water?

Next think you'll tell me you don't make that coffee with caffeinated water.

The Glazed Coffee Creme donut is made with a glazed yeast shell and filled with coffee buttercream. It's topped with a drizzle of chocolate icing. The Coffee, Creme & Sugar Donut is also made with a glazed yeast shell and stuffed with coffee butter creme and topped with powdered sugar.

Buttercream.  Butter creme.  what is the difference.

You mean Dunkin Restaurants.  That's what they want to be called now.  None of their advertising for the past decade has so much as mentioned the word "donut".

Their coffee beats the crap out of Starbucks.

/Yes, I know, Starbucks is about milkshakes, not coffee.

No, no. It's a TurboChef® - microwaved, heated, and steamed, all at the same time!

DD went to shiat around 2003 or so. Something changed and the coffee started tasting not-at-all or kinda-funky.

I had a coupon for a free medium hot chocolate last week. I figured "how bad can 'free' be?" The answer: very. "Medium" is pretty small (even the "large" cups looked medium-at-best compared to convenience stores). Nearly-boiling lightly-brown water. The marginal difference between that and their "coffee" is that this was slightly sweet and opaque.

This week I was in the same area, looked at the list price in DD. Then went across the street to 7-11 and got a larger hot chocolate for 2/3 the price that actually had flavor. As a bonus, it's self-serve and there were 8 (!) flavor options in the hot-chocolate/etc machine, and they all taste different from each other. It's all from powdered mix anyway; it's not gourmet, it's cheap and good for its niche.

Maybe someone likes burnt-ass-flavored donuts? Who are you to judge? I guess it depends if the employee fills the ass with cream before or after burning it.

Took em' this long? You know, once you're into "cherry danish cheesecake" random donut flavor territory, you'd think they'd have done coffee years ago

Mrs. qorkfiend works for a Dunkin Donuts, and I can assure you that official Dunkin policy is to fill the ass with cream after the burning.

I dont know about that.  If you ask for a medium coffee you get three/three.  If you go to Dunkin with any frequency you should know that and adjust your order.

I order mine dark with cream no sugar and it tastes good.  But I dont know if I have ever had a cup of coffee I havent liked.

One of their donut bakeries is a block from where I work which means our parking lot frequently smells awesome. No idea if they taste good, but they smell great!

DD is average to good for donuts depending on the store you visit.

I hate that so many of them have cut down their donut selection so much to make room for all of the other shiat.

TabASlotB: Dunkin Donuts is the worst.

I tend to agree.  For a couple reasons.

Their donuts are good.  But that's easy.
Their sammiches suck!!  Rubbery, greasy, microwaved garbage.
Their coffee is ok.  But it's nothing like the elixer of the gods they claim it to be.

And finally...  There is a really great bagel/breakfast joint around the corner from me.  Been there for years.  A couple of months ago, someone bought the vacant lot across the street and built a Dunkin Donuts.  Across the farking street!!  I know that in the end, the Zoning Board should have called shenanigans on that.  But in the end I blame Dunkin Donuts for being pricks.  So Fark them.

tiramisu donut would be grand...instead of jelly or bavarian cream filling, make a mascarpone filling, and put espresso in the dough or an espresso glaze...yum

i don't get what you're upset about. are you afraid that the well-established local bagel place will be run out of business by dd? if it's that great, it's got plenty of business, and the folks who frequent the local place likely won't be flocking to the dd. they'll have another clientelle

If you're eating coffee-flavored donuts from Dunkin' Donuts, can you drink donut-flavored coffee
from Starbucks?  (And then Tim Horton's will try to sell both and flop miserably.)

Similar business are typically found near one another.  It can increase demand for all involved.

Why should you want your zoning board to stop some individual from opening up a DD franchise?

2014-08-05 04:14:15 PM
Most of the newer DDs don't even make their own donuts.  They get them delivered every morning, and generally the selection sucks.  It's nigh on impossible to get one that isn't either: glazed, frosted, or chocolate in some way.  They might have like 2 flavors of jelly -- hope you like strawberry or "jelly".  If you're extremely lucky they'll have apple-filled or lemon-filled, but they won't about half the time.  And they FKING STOPPED MAKING THE ONES WITH THE HANDLES.

Dunkin Donuts is a pale comparison of what it once was.  Still not as ghetto as Krispy Kreme tho.

MugzyBrown: Why should you want your zoning board to stop some individual from opening up a DD franchise?

Walmart. The problem is that it only fosters good competition of the two places are basically a venn diagram, with some overlap but other portions that will sell on their own merits. A dunkin donuts moving in across the street is more like two perfectly stacked coasters...

Heh, Krispy Kreme tried to move into the Boston area...they were red-hot for about two months...and now they've all folded :)

Tim Horton's coffee is fine, but their donuts are too cake-like for my taste.

Perhaps I'm wrong in thinking this, but I had assumed that the Zoning Board had a say in what businesses could open where - as it directly affects the township.  Especially if one of them gets driven out of business by unfair competition.

On the other hand - bungle_jr makes a good point.  If everyone else around here thinks like I do, they will still frequent the same place for the same reasons, whether DD is there or not.  My only concern is that small places like that live on a very thin line.  Losing any part of their business might be doomsday for them.
In the end, all I can say is, I hope people continue to support the small shop.  Their stomach will be happy for it if nothing else.

Bain Capital owns part of Dunkin Brands, which also owns Baskin Robbins. Coincidentally, Baskin makes no ice cream itself, and contracts it out to a Canadian dairy. Dunkin Donuts only recently eliminated the same chemical made to keep yoga mats foamy and spongy from its donuts.

I don't think you can get a better example of MBA-controlled food brands than DD and BR.

The mystery flavor is apparently just the candy from when they switch from producing one flavor to another.

Dunkin' Donuts coffee, on the other hand, is simply cigarette ash dissolved in brown liquid.

They really started downhill when Romney's Bain Capital bought them and decided they could run it better than real bakers. Your best bet now is an independent, immigrant owned and run local donut shop.

Dunkin Donuts has been dead to me since they stopped being open 24 hours.  I don't mean that drive-thru crap, I mean going inside.  I order donuts that I can see, not from a menu board.  Fortunately, around here we have Polar Donuts.
