Yep.  And even though mirror universe T'itsPol and Hoshi are hot as hell, mirror universe Uhura is hotter by orders of magnitude.

Are you high? TaPol was way hotter. The long hair made it better.

When Kirk gave Uhura the first interracial TV kiss, I was about 13 years old and didn't know it was groundbreaking or I should be shocked.

I just thought, "damn! That woman is HAWT!"

WTF is "ethnic astronaut"??? Are you out of your gourd, subby? You live in a country that is multi-ethnic by design. Irish, Italian and Germans are no less "ethnic" than Pacific Islanders or Indians. I hate this doublespeak

"Nicolas was a revolutionary figure at a time when the only African-American women you saw on U.S. TV were usually playing servants"

I'm always found this claim bemusing. Nicolas was a servant to a white man. In fact, she was a servant to an entire carde of white men. True, she was something of a glorified secretary but still a servant in all respects.

Not really. At most she was a subordinate to a cadre of white officers that outranked her, but she was hardly their servant. My memory is a bit foggy on TOS, but I don't remember Uhura being told to fetch Kirk his food and clothing and whatnot.

No, that was Yeoman Rand who, I think, was implied to provide the captain with a variety of services.

Uhura might not have been senior command but she was a bridge officer which for the 60s was amazing for a black woman on TV.  Apparently MLK himself thought so and begged her to keep the role when he heard she wanted to quit.

Who could resist Uhura in the mirror universe costume?

Not me. Of course, I couldn't resist her in her normal uniform.

Of all the mirror ones, the winner of "Most improved" would have to go to the Intendant.

No! No we can't have that! We need hyper-involved plot lines, multi-episode arcs involving shadowy conspiracies that are totally evil and bad because it sounds like "Taliban", a captain who won't fight back and constantly gets his ass kicked, then we need to recon the whole thing into an only slightly mediocre episode of a much better Trek series!

Scotty was third in command - he took over frequently when both Kirk and Spock were on away missions. Then was Sulu, then Uhura. Still, 5th place on a ship is like that is NOT a negative. Bones was not in command structure.

There is a novel where Kirk gives McCoy command as a joke, and then goes and gets himself kidnapped.

One-time event. Lots of reasons possibly why. Further stories - including the Animated series - show her as the ranking officer after the top 4.
