We get the government we elect.

Meh, you just want him all for yourself, you turtle-marrying bastage.

Yeah, yeah, that's all well and good, but who do I vote for if I want to rain terror upon the masses? I don't see Cthulhu's name on the ballot, so which one is going to scour the land with fire and brimstone?

Wake up! Do you really think 0bama will run the risk of another election?

Well he does have a point. Both sides ARE bad.

One is a democrat, the other appears to be the product of the unholy union of a dominionist turtle and criminally incompetent human.  I'll let you decide.

2014-08-04 04:36:51 PM
So how many turtles do I need to suck off before Alison Grimes and Eliana Johnson will change out of their status quos and into their candids in my Senate chambers?

2014-08-04 04:36:56 PM
I hope Grimes ends up wiping the floor with the Chelonian choad, but in general I'm weary of the anti-"insider" arguments.  The people in my state voted out a bunch of said insiders, only to replace them with less-experienced politicians who were dependent on Art Pope and ALEC for their marching orders.

2014-08-04 04:37:45 PM
To his base, this makes perfect sense.

2014-08-04 04:38:10 PM
FTFA:

McConnell and Grimes were the big draw. On Saturday, they brought the same message: It's time for change. McConnell promised it in the form of a Republican-led Senate that would serve as a bulwark against the Obama administration. Dressed in khakis and a pale-yellow dress shirt, he told the raucous crowd, "There's only one way, just one way to change America in 2014; there's only one way to begin to go in a different direction. That's to change the Senate and make me the leader of a new majority to take America in a different direction." Grimes, he said, is merely "a new face for the status quo."

Lessee... Grimes  is:
-35 years old
-A woman
-In touch with popular culture
-The daughter of a political stalwart who owns a restaurant called Hugh Jass that has burgers named after family members
-Entirely uninformed about current events and apparently terrified of reporters, preventing her from gaming the system effectively or using talking points to advance an anti-Obama stance week after week.

Pretty much all of that is the opposite of McConnell, who makes the status quo look edgy.

2014-08-04 04:40:04 PM
I'll admit I feel sorry for Mitch a little, or at least I sympathize. His party is so close to controlling the Senate, and he's actually having to fight for his seat. I figure the highlight of a Senator's 30 year career is to be Majority Leader, so that would really suck for him to lose his job, especially if his party manages to win the Senate.

2014-08-04 04:41:53 PM
"Let's make Congress even MORE useless! Vote Republican!"

It's a good message. I like it.

The problem with the anti-insider argument is multi-fold.

Your state has nobody in an influential position on influential committees.
Pork (yeah, they all SAY they hate it, but fight like hell for it), gets slashed for your state.
Same with government contracts to vendors.

But bigger than both of those things, these days it means your state is now in the hands of teatards. And that is nothing to be proud of. They can, and will, cut the nose off of the state to spite it's face.

2014-08-04 04:43:54 PM
I didn't know it was Greenlight McConnell day.  And me without my submissions and all.  This is just embarrassing.

If you want change, get someone to launch a no confidence vote for the RNC Chair, get a moderate in, and watch things happen that would make the Saturday Night Massacre look like a DAR reception.

2014-08-04 04:48:34 PM
and the crowd goes wild, with laughter!

Also, 9 times out of 10, the "outsider" making the argument is anything but (usually by being related to an insider).

/See Bush, George W.
//Also Romney, Willard.
///Or for a current race, see Perdue, David.

Kind of like when McCain/Palin ran on reform while representing the incumbent party.

Holy crap did she ever.  For 8 minutes.  And he just sat there looking confused, like an Alzheimer's patient staring at the TV in the Nursing Home Rec Room.  He simply could not be-lieve someone would call him out openly and speak of him in that manner.  Caught him completely off guard.  And me, too, honestly - it's not often you get to see a rally speech that confrontational.  Refreshing, really.

I wonder if this is her usual stump speech.  Or if it's her stump speech  now.

2014-08-04 05:45:58 PM
Would you like to see another shutdown allowed by the guy who's been in Congress a long time, already failed as a Majority Leader, and vowed to bring everything to a halt for one-term Obama, even if that meant filibustering himself?

Well stop that. Seriously. You're farking everything up with those kids of ideas.

Speaking of Yurtle the Turtle, I see a story about McConnell calling Rand Paul the 'most credible' presidential candidate in 170 years.

I wonder how THAT came about.

No, both sides aren't the same. I couldn't imagine Al Gore invading Iraq or either John McCain or Mitt Romney repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell.

America has two parties: A center-right party trying to keep the country alive, Democrats, and a batshiat crazy party determined to destroy the country, Republicans.

Can you name anything Republicans are for nowadays? Anything at all?
