Spray and pray is a time tested successful firearm strategy, and I'm sure if the reporter had asked the obvious follow up question "Do you also pray while firing?" then the candidate would have replied in the affirmative, thus validating her expertise in the technique.

After shooting multiple times at target, Jones managed to hit the target once in shoulder, before admitting "That's a problem at thirty yards."

Oh, Y'THINK??  One non-lethal hit at 30 yards?  I assume with your eyes open?  I'm guessing this person never, ever practices - she just like carrying a gun around and taking about her right to do so.

Kreist.

Oh - and this little gem:

Previously Jones was notable on the campaign trail for claiming in 2013 to have served in the U.S. Air Force when the closest she came to the Air Force was as a cadet in the Air Force ROTC at the University of Oklahoma.

She's spending 2 million of her own cash in her bid to buy the Governorship and she's pandering to the Teatards in Arizona at a heady clip (or is it mag?) with this latest NRA knob polishing act.

Does this kind of wing-nuttery endear her to those 2A guys or do even they roll their eyes here?

So she's willing to shoot blindly, not knowing what or where her target is. Sounds like she's been endorsed by Joe Biden and Dick Cheney. She could be our next VP!

I am by no means the last word on marksmanship but having shot a little bit in my life, I have trouble believing that anyone short of an elderly Parkinson's sufferer could shoot that poorly with a gun they were even remotely familiar with.   Something tells me she comes from the Sarah Palin school of shooting:  Talk a big game but make it glaringly obvious when you handle a firearm on camera that it is probably the first time in your life you've done so.

and the first rule of shooting when I learned it, was: if you can;t see your target clearly, don't take the shot.

THIRTY YARDS?!?  With a carry pistol? As serious practice?  Why are you shooting that far away (especially if you're not very good at it)? The FBI/police/anyone who knows what they're talking about will tell you that the majority of gunfights are in the 5-10 FOOT range.  Unless the person 30 yards away has a long arm, you probably aren't in imminent danger (that's not to say that I'd want someone shooting at me with a pistol from 30 yards as that is a relatively easy shot to make, it's just hard to mug someone from that far away).

I guess that the good thing is that the candidate for governor is opening her mouth & proving what an idiot she really is.  Too bad it wasn't done in/before the primaries & a somewhat sane person was on the ticket instead of her (of course from what I've read/seen of AZ, relatively sane republicans either don't want to run for anything or moved out of the state a long time ago).

Seriously. When I tell people at the range that I sometimes go to 50ft to test my long aim, I get laughed at. Even the 20ft minimum they require (for some reason - fewer paper-ricochets at that range?), they say, is well beyond "personal defense" range.

You want to practice a personal defense scenario with a handgun? Find your weapon, load the mag (or cylinder), and get fire-ready (finger OUTSIDE the guard, newbs) in the dark, then practice drawing and NOT shooting.

Then, once you've gotten good at not making a habit out of "draw/fire", go to a Hogan's Alley range to test your quick-thinking skills (have bystanders shout and throw things at you, to simulate the stress of the situation).

Shooting in the dark is useless, though it is a great metaphor for how off-the-rails the GOP and its 2A true believers are.

No, I'm advocating actually taking guns from people who are so catastrophically deluded and irresponsible they publicly say what amounts to "Some night I am going to shoot a family member because I'm twitchy and stupid."

I agree with you that she's doing it wrong. If you want to shoot in low light scenarios; just turn off the lights and let your eyes adjust. As to the other; I felt like pointing out some inconsistencies in the logic train.

Nobody's pointed out this last little gem?

"Jones spokesperson said that she had intended on enlisting but her poor eyesight kept her out."

She should probably take her glasses off before shooting too, just to be extra extra realistic. Won't have time to put them on when there's an intruder in the house. Then she can practice identifying which dark blobby shapes best represent "intruder" as opposed to "beloved child and/or relative".

(I can almost hear her saying "well, the darker ones, of course!" But that's just me being biased. She doesn't have to be stupid AND racist.)
