Does anybody really hate Darth Vader?  Sure they fear him, but hate him?  Now that wussy Anakin Skywalker, he's hated.

I concur. Darth Vader would make the trains run on time.

Who the hell hates Darth Vader???

Well they are destroying the country, so in that respect they're scarier than Vader and more hateful than Jar Jar.

xanadian: Who the hell hates Darth Vader???

Not the people who 538 surveyed. They love him.

4th most popular person on the list after Luke, Han and Yoda, for crying out loud.

More properly Congress is less popular than Mitch McConnel, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and John Bohner combined.

Jar Jar is still more popular than all 4 of them. Which *is* telling.

Most interesting to me was the fact that Hillary was the most popular real person on the list.

And that the next real person was Huckabee with about half of Hill's support followed by Rand Paul and Rubio.

Did find it weird that Emperor P scored better than Obama and Liz Warren.

2014-08-04 10:48:44 AM
And yet most of them will vote to re-elect their current Congress-critter, because he's the only one who's kicking against the pricks.

At least Darth Vader redeemed himself by doing something good. No hope for Congress.

2014-08-04 10:56:35 AM
How the hell did Martin O'Malley make that list?  Believe me, he's vastly more unlikable than Jar-Jar.  Hell, Jar-Jar could probably do a better job as governor of Maryland.  All that poll proves is he needs to do a better job of getting his name out there so people can come to loathe him like anyone who isn't from Baltimore City, Montgomery County, or Prince Georges County.  They like him.  The rest of us wish he would take him and his flunkies to another state.  If you think Hillary is think skinned about criticism, you need to see O'Malley handle criticism.  He makes Hillary look calm and rational.

I always thought that by having Senator Jar Jar introduce the resolution that gives Palpatine executive
authority and leads directly to the fall of the Republic was Lucas' way of telling all the fans who hated
the character "You want to hate him?  Fine, I'll give you something to REALLY hate him for."

But somehow, I don't think Lucas is that subtle in his creative processes.

Pretty certain that wasn't subtle at all. It was pretty damn blunt.

The 538 poll was internal, using SurveyMonkey.

The job-approval polls were done using Gallup, and bear zero demographical resemblance to the 538 poll.

If this was food, you've just stuffed a lobster with Moon Pies.

Start local and build the base.

Can't get a national 3rd party without having a larger field of candidates that can point to their state office experience as state Senators and Reps and Mayors and Governors.

Yea... but then you have to deal with the Tea Partiers that will infiltrate the new party and make them look like racists.

I have my fingers crossed that the New Whig party will continue to pick up support over time.

While I understand Democrats disliking Congress, I don't understand the hate from Republicans. They're doing the exact thing you elected them to do, so why do you like them less than hair lice? Maybe if you Republicans are that disgusted with your Congressman, you should get over your rhetoric and vote Democrat or a third party to send these guys a message. Or even run yourself.

These polls are irrelevant - people will still vote for their incumbents.  Basically, those surveyed tend to think "there are terrible people in Congress, except for MY representative".

Because while they may have stymied the democrats with their childish assholiness, they have not kicked off the second coming, the apocalypse, or any of the other end of the world happenings from their books.
Jebus hasn't made his appearance either, and their favorite fantasy movie ("Left Behind") hasn't come to pass.

They didn't just want the dems to be stopped, they wanted all of existence to stop as well.

Oh. I should have known he was pulling some strings. I've got no love for the Democrats or Republicans, but I can't stand that guy or the Tea Partiers. I can respect policy differences. I can't abide irrational ideologues.

Well yeah, at least Jar-Jar was willing to work with whoever was in charge, and Vader has zero tolerance for incompetence.

Lately, I've grown to think that Vader hated his younger self for the same reason Picard hated his younger self in TNG's "Tapestry": for being an arrogant douchebag who almost got killed in a stupid fight.

I always assumed Big GL was sitting around his working study on the Ranch one night, story-boarding the rise, and said to himself, "Ha ha, look at the ['70s negro caricature]!  He's so foolish he'll won't just vote for the Emperor, but he'll nominate him himself! Silly negro!"

Vader has a very slight tolerance for incompetence. Admittedly, Captain Needa only got one strike, but Admiral Ozzel got at least two (otherwise Vader would have whacked him after "My Lord, there are so many...uncharted settlements"), and Piette didn't get choked out after he assured Vader the Falcon's hyperdrive had been deactivated (yes, R2 fixed it, but there was no way for Vader or Piette to know that).

No, Vader knew Piett wasn't lying. Piett was ordered to deactivate the hyper drive and that's exactly what he did.

Zahn expounded on this by going into Palleon's mind a bit and saying Vader was prone to fits of anger where he'd kill good officers just for being near by when things didn't go Vader's way. He pointed out that Thrawn was much more even keeled and would even reward officers who failed if they failed by the book showing good ingenuity.
