Rubio didn't just backpedal in immigration reform; he went full "fark you I got mine".

On his NPR interview he said he thinks citizenship should be "merit-based" rather than passed down. Bold words coming from a son of Cuban refugees.

Fox News Manny Alvares, who is also Cuban, had an editorial the other day about how he was offended that one would try to compare the situation of Cuban immigrants to the other Latino groups, since Cubans are "legitimate" refugees because communism and the other countries have problems stemming from corruption and lack of morality. Cubans exiles sure do seem to know how to win over the Latino vote in the U.S. If they do try to run Rubio or Cruz... it should take about five minutes for any hispanic media consultant to label them as the farking hypocrites they are about immigration and have hispanics hating them even more than they hated Mittens.

Wallace displayed polls showing Rubio's favorability taking a hit since supporting the bill.

LOL. I can almost start to feel a little bit sorry for Rubio by this point.

He was once touted by the GOP as their way to get back some of the Hispanic voters who left the party in droves after initially supporting Bush Junior back in the day.

But their efforts to at once cry "Crisis at the border" while studiously avoiding legislating anything that looks like a real solution shows the GOP's true colors on the issue making his mission a really hard sell.

That plus the fact that he's Cuban (the only type of Hispanic that Republicans really like because only they are known to truly hate communism as much as the average GOPer according to long held GOP lore) which does not automatically endear him to the rest of the much more populous Hispanic-American community.

Not to mention the not insignificant number of racists in the party who spent the last 6 or so years trying desperately to deny America's first black president who probably would be turned off by a Rubio nomination.

So like I said, I almost start to feel sorry for him.

Then I read an interview like this where he tries to avoid answering a legitimate question with some half-assed, flippity-floppity, pol-speak non answer and I think better of it.

I love the fact that the far-right majority of my extended family thinks Rubio is the GOPs answer to their party's "Latino problem", because to them, he's exactly the same as a "Mexican", so of course he can speak to their issues.

Just from my personal experience, I'm not entirely sure that would happen. When I went to El Paso, their conversations about the issues was wanting nothing to do with Florida immigration issues. My Florida counterparts considers most of El Paso illegals because Florida had laws specifically crafted for their immigration to be legal. They really don't like to be confused with each other. It's similar to confusing a Mexican with a Latino or Hispanic. Most people don't care, but in certain regions they REALLY care.

//I'm related to this situation and have heard these two sides pretty frequently. I'm sure there are more than even two sides on this discussion in the immigrant community.

America is horrible, sure as a blanket statement I can agree, but that comes with a couple nuances: advertisements like to lie to us about how great we feel, and we in turn feel better; this country is not as horrible as most other countries. We've got a real money problem, but it's not permanent if the right people act on it. At least we're not physically clashing with neighboring countries, bombs included, because reasons.

FTFA:  Rubio said his stance on immigration reform has nothing to do with politics.
  --  And --
"We're not debating what to do. We're debating how to do it. And I'm just telling you we will never have the votes necessary to pass in one bill all of those things. It just won't happen," Rubio said. "So, our choices are: We can either continue to beat our heads against the wall and try a process for which we will never have the support, or we can try another way that we could perhaps make progress on."

So how is the second quote not political and how does that square with the first?  You say your stance is not political, then go on to describe it as purely political.  Do you know what the word 'political' means?
