I think the GOP in the 2009-10 Congress showed strong party discipline (not that I agreed with what they did with that discipline), and that is partly reflective of leadership. Then again, the most crazy of the Tea Party people were first elected to serve in the 2011-12 Congress, so the situation isn't completely comparable.

I like how Boehner basically responded to Sarah Palin's calls for impeachment with just, "I disagree," then had to turn around and say, "Its... its a White House scam!  Yeah, that's it!"  But for that to be plausible, that'd mean Palin was working for the White House, at which point we'd hit division by zero, and--

They ran into the same problems the Dems did in 2006-2008.  All the Dems cared about was getting more Dems and it didn't really matter what they stood for.  Once those Blue Dogs were in, they farked the party over with their opportunism.  The GOP wanted their wave election to punish Obama, but the only way to do that was to open the door and let the crazies in.

Apparently an "impeachable offense" is just anything you don't like these days.

This confirms, as did the Clinton escapades, that the GOP neither understands nor accepts the gravitas of the Nixon impeachment.

The Blaze (yes I feel dirty even mentioning that site) had the same thing going on earlier this week. There was a post about Glenn Beck saying on his show that the White House talking about impeachment was a scam, because nobody is really talking about impeachment and Obama just wants to look persecuted. Right next to it was a commentary about how Obama should be impeached for fraud for the you can keep your doctor line.

I've seen this movie before.

They start with captchas for absolutely everything, then when trolls work around that, they move to ever more horrible and impossible captchas.  Finally they bunker down and refuse to let anything at all be posted without being pre-approved by moderators.  Then the trolls infiltrate the mod ranks and open the floodgates.  Finally the owner has a mental breakdown and ragequits the internet and/or life.

Boehner isn't doing his party any favors letting this drag out. Let the idiot King have his vote - a 405-30 whomping will speak volumes.

Nobody in Congress is actually interested in solving the presidential-overreach issue, because when the time comes that their guy's in the White House, they want him to be able to overreach even more than Bush and Obama have already.

Boehner and Reid like it just fine that when a president pulls a fast one the only thing Congress can do about it is impeachment or nothing.

2014-08-03 07:51:42 PM
"But if the president has decided that he simply is not going to enforce any immigration law or at least not against anybody except the felons, which he has done already ... I think Congress has to sit down and have a serious look at the rest of this Constitution and that includes that "I" word we don't want to say."

So, if Obama does the thing he's already done you'll have to sit down and take a look at it?

2014-08-03 07:53:47 PM
The President needs to issue an executive order that explicitly prohibits Congress from impeaching him. Just to piss the tards off.

2014-08-03 07:53:48 PM
The official Republican party line is that they aren't going to impeach him, but that doesn't mean the rank and file aren't going to use the spectre of Mr Obama being led out of the White House in shackles to rile up their base leading up to the 2014 midterms.

2014-08-03 07:55:17 PM
I wonder if it burns GOP asses to know that Pelosi was a million times more effective than Agent Orange over here at the Speaker job.

I'd imagine it would, but frankly most of them are so incredibly ignorant about the actual functioning of government they probably have no idea what the Speaker of House even does.

2014-08-03 07:57:06 PM
according to the rightwing nutjob media, this impeachment talk has been initiated by Dems to drum up support before midterms. I am only left to believe that King and every other Republican who has mentioned impeachment are simply liberal plants. God damn, the Dems are just so farking nefarious!

IF they move to impeach, and that's an IF bigger than the Grand Canyon, it'll be the first presidential impeachment for the crime of being black. We've slipped from blowjobs to race. I don't know if this country is going forward, backward, or dancing in circles sometimes.

America is moving forward, the teabaggers aren't. A decade ago, only 34% of Americans were supportive of marriage equality; Today, it's at least 59%.

Forward.  The GOP is just desperately terrified about that because there's no place for them in that future.  It's hard to have a party with national influence when your core agenda discriminates against a majority of the country.

Bear in mind, we're moving into a political landscape where appealing to the White voting bloc exclusively no longer guarantees you electoral success.  The GOP has no Plan B for this reality.

Don't be such a drama queen.  After they got an impeachment with Clinton, it's going to be a standard part of their repertoire from now on.  Every Democrat president will need to be clean as a whistle, because the smallest screw up will trigger the calls for removal from office.
