So, apparently the roided out, orange skinned, duck faced, slicked back Jersey Shore residents are actually genetically pre disposed to behaving that way.

Yeah. Those kids were easy to spot. If you had the "opportunity" to brag about who you knew more than once, you didn't know them very well. IF you did know them, your bragging would've come to an end one way or another.

The vast majority of NY/NJ 'Italians' are actually Sicilian, or from Southern Italy.  Southern Italy and Sicily are the poorest parts of Italy and Northern Italians despise people from those areas.   Case in point:  I have a friend who was in the USMC.  A few years ago they went to Europe to train with some NATO troops.  One of the units they were training with was from the Italian Army.   The USMC contingent had a first gen 'Italian" guy from Jersey with them.  The lieutenant designated this Jersey 'Italian' to act as interpreter between the Marines and the Italian troops because the Jersey guy could speak 'Italian'.   First time the Jersey Marine tried talking to the Italian troops they refused to listen to what he had to say.  They told him, "You speak Sicilian, not Italian, find someone who can speak proper Italian."

How I long for the old days, when the Mafia kept to furtive meetings at various and sundry "sporting clubs" and omertà was sacrosanct.  Don't these guidos know that FB is for attention whores?  John Gotti welcomed publicity; how'd that work out for him?

My family is from all over Italy, but I look like the southern Italians. When I went to south Italy, I swear I blended in, and the Italians were extremely nice to me once I told them (in Italian) that I had family originate in and around Naples. Considered moving there but then I read Gomorrah, which is about the mafia in S. Italy. Killed that desire. Would move to Florence, though, in a heartbeat.

Only two of the Jersey shore cast was born and raised in Jersey.

Here's the rundown:

Deena Cortese -- Italian -- New Egypt, New Jersey (BTW, New Egypt is South Jersey, and is considered a poor red-neck kind of town)

Paul Del Vecchio -- Italian -- Johnston, Rhode Island

Jennifer Farley -- Irish/Spanish -- Franklin Square, New York

Samantha Giancola -- Greek/Italian -- Hazlet, New Jersey (the only one who is actually from a Jersey Shore town)

Vinny Guadagnino -- Sicilian -- Staten Island, New York

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro -- Puerto Rican/Italian -- Bronx, New York

Angelina Pivarnick -- Polish -- Staten Island, New York

Nicole Polizzi -- Chilean -- Marlboro, New York

Michael Sorrentino -- Italian -- Staten Island, New York

It has a really nice winery and some really large farms as well. And of course McMansions and small estates, I guess that is poor to you

Kind of like trying to speak American English to a southerner, or U.K. English to the Welsh.

Maybe things have changed since the early 80s?  I remember when when friend's parents divorced....lived in Bergen County at the time.  My friend's mom cleaned out his dad in the divorce.  The dad ended up in a trailer park in New Egypt.

Most of the orange-tinted trashbags that populate the Shore during the summer are BENNYs - Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, and New York City.  Staten Island and the Bronx are in NYC, so that right there is a majority.  Plus, Providence, RI is about as guinea as it gets outside of the tri-state area.

Regarding Sicilians, a non-insignificant number of actual Italians have told me that everything from Naples south might as well be Africa, what with all the poverty, corruption and tribalism.

True.  My experience is mostly Monmouth County and the northern end of Ocean County; I was under the impression that the Shoebies mostly just take the ACE out from Philadelphia and stay down there near Cape May and AC.

Chris Christie needs to annex Staten Island the way Putin annexed Crimea. Everybody knows that deep down they're really his people. It makes sense geographically as well: it's closer to New Jersey than it is to anything in New York. And they even vote Republican there.
