(New Musical Express)   Man proposes to his girlfriend during an Arcade Fire concert, because a nice, private, non-crowded place is usually the best place to pop the question   (nme.com ) divider line

DEVO is opening for Arcade Fire?!?!?!?!   As much as I'd love to see Devo, I will not by an AC ticket for it, plus I might not be able to get out of the venue in time and may be subjected to some of the shiat AC peddles.....

This is almost as bad as proposing at a Nickelback concert.

Almost.

This is almost as bad as proposing at a Nuremberg Rally.

You know who else proposed Nuremberg as possible location?

AC's worst stuff is better than Devo's best.

/love both, but AC is objectively better musically

now a proposal at a Sunny Day Real Estate show, followed by an awe-inspiring performance of "Waffle," THAT was something to see... that was 14 years ago, and no article about it either.

Devo's stuff is far more original. That may be a little hard to due to the fact that they've been influencing other bands for 36 years, but it's true nonetheless.

Listen to "Something for Everybody," for instance, and tell me who else it sounds like.

Devo's stuff is far more original. That may be a little hard to notice due to the fact that they've been influencing other bands for 36 years, but it's true nonetheless.

Edited for clarity.

Fark ME do I hate Arcade Fire. The music, the look, the fans, the French-infused hipsterness of it all... ugh. I swear I can smell this band through my monitor.

Arcade Fire always makes me think of poet Dale Gribble's touching words, "this chorus is the feces that is produced when shame eats too much stupidity!"

I don't disagree at all. Devo is definitely more original, and I like Devo a lot.

Well??  What did she say?

It's not that nobody goes to an Arcade Fire concert. It's just everybody has to spread out so they don't sprawl all over each other.

Hey I don't make the rules.

She said it smells like you peed the bed.

But those aren't concerts ... they're  events, dammit!  Don't you want stuff to tell the kiddies when you're old?  What's wrong with you??

AF has become the ultimate AW band - or at least one of the top ones.

Really though, who is so self absorbed as to propose at live event, as if anyone cares.

I proposed during a NY Rangers game at MSG
/she said yes, still married 14+ years later
//we weren't on TV or the jumbo-tron so not as AW as you might think
///people sitting in our section didn't even know it was us

As someone who works fairly close to Shoreline... Arcade Fire played Thursday and traffic wasn't all that bad getting out of the office, didn't seem like a big crowd.  And the crowd that was milling around before the show was mellow.

But... Friday was some three-ring urban-cowboy shiatkicker hodown.  I've never seen such a high concentration of coal-rolling short-dicked-lifted-pickup hipsterbilly asshats and beat-to-shiat 90's era Dodge Neons packed five deep with fat blonde acid-washed trailer trash hookers.  All of them blaring country, tossing empties into the street, and laying on their horns.  Sitting in traffic trying to get -out- of the area and watching them slowly inch towards Shoreline I imagined what I was witnessing was what it would have looked like if Moses led the People of Walmart across the desert.

I'd never heard of Dierks Bentley before Friday but now I wish nothing but a slow cancerous death upon him and all of his fandom.
