(Chron)   Local news station runs story based on cell phone video claiming mom left kids in hot car to get her hair cut. The same video shows the mom begging strangers for help after locking her keys in the car. You'd better believe that's a lawsuit   (chron.com) divider line 120

Maybe she'll sue Nancy Grace, too.

Who's the dumbass here? I'm going with the news station and Nancy Grace for not confirming their source. Used to be "Journalists" would have to have a confirmation before reporting something as fact.

Oh...and googling up a second source that refers to the first source is not confirming a fact.

According to the suit, nationally syndicated TV personality Nancy Grace even picked it up, calling Cisneros an unfit mother.

Don't worry.  Nancy Grace will still find a way for her to be a horrible person who probably deserves the gas chamber.  Or will forget the story entirely.

I hope she wins and wins big. What the news station did was irresponsible and a complete disgrace.

Some say journalists had to have confirmation before reporting. Others disagree. Interesting debate. Well, thanks for coming on our show! Next up, a dog that can brush its own teeth!

With the ubiquity of remote locks for the last 20 years, who manually locks/unlocks their cars anymore?

From what I understand, it will be very hard for her to win. But she might be able to get them to settle for a much smaller amout.

I don't know about you guys, but I keep the fob that remotely operates my cars locks on the same keyring. If I lock the keys in the car, I lock the fob in there with them.

Most if not all cars won't let you lock it manually from the drivers door. On my wife's 2000 honda civic, the drivers lock can't be depressed with the door open. Every Lexus I've owned flat out couldn't be locked without using the fob.

If you have a key fob, why are you insisting on using the buttons on the inside of your door? Key fobs were designed to keep people from locking themselves out, but apparently there's a group of people that think "fark it, I'm going to lock myself out anyway, because reasons."

the car I am currently driving doesn't have remote locks and you have to use the key to lock the driver's side door - it is both an inconvenient safety feature and (had I small children) not a bad idea.

Let me give you a for instance, carrying stuff to your car, use your key fob to unlock the trunk, put stuff in trunk, drop key fob in trunk with stuff and close the trunk.  Tada you have now locked yourself out of your car.

Apparently a real woman would, in an adrenaline induced rage, rip a parking meter out of the concrete and swing it like a baseball bat, shattering the window and possibly sending the door itself flying 500 feet away.

Barring that, though, I'm not sure the average person could easily find something lying around on the ground that could be used to break a window from the outside, unless you're parked next to a construction site.  Most rocks I've seen on the ground are of the pebble variety, and bricks are hard to come by.  You could use your keys as a punch, I suppose, if they weren't inside the car in the first place.

It just occurred to me that I've actually done that.  Fortunately I'd also unlocked the car doors in advance (which I don't always do), so I was able to do the manual latch for the truck from the driver's side seat.  I don't think I though of it at the time about how much my day would have sucked had I not unlocked the doors.

\Not making fun of anyone, I like a simple car too. Toys like to break. I am tired of cars with all of these gadgets. Are you in a living room or a car. Lookup and drive dang nabbit!
