You wouldn't want government to happen while they're away on their monthlong vacation, would you? They're just taking their ball and going home.

This would be the second governmental shutdown, or three? I've lost track, sad to say.

2 for Boehner 1 for Newt Gingrich back in the day. If my memory is correct. It worked out about as well for Newt as it has for Boehner

Ah, the fark politics tab.  Where a link to Fox News is too biased to be reliable, but a blog post from a congressional staffer is perfectly cromulent.  I mean, not even HuffPo or DailyKos are running this "story" about blocking amendments to a single bill, but I'm sure it really is the end of democracy in the house just as reported.  Meanwhile, Harry Reid has been using procedural tricks to block republican amendments to every bill in the senate for years now.  I believe the fark politics response to that was "elections have consequences."

When your team wins and uses it's power, it's just democracy in action.  When the other team does it, it's the end of democracy as we know it.

Honest question for the congressional historians out there. Is Boehner the worst speaker of all time, or at least the modern era? He seems like the most dysfunctional farkstick I can remember.

one "team" has been actively trying to drag the ol' USofA back into the dark ages. It's not that Democrats are necessarily our "team" but the alternative is akin to setting your own house ablaze.

Honest question, is this suspension of the rules the same suspension of the rules discussed in this article, which states

"Suspension of the rules is the most common way the House of Representatives brings bills to the floor (Oleszek 1996). In fact, the 105th Congress used suspension for a majority of the bills it considered on the floor."

Here's the problem - he ran for public office and won - THEN he decided to be and do nothing.

If he was still some manager working for an Ohio plastics company, nobody would hate him.

While you are technically correct, which is the best type of correct, your response is also willfully ignorant bullshiat.  In the off chance that you can spare a synapse, I think you might want to know that the democratic process is a pretty key element in both the foundation and operation of our republic.  Regardless of our systemic flaws, the USA is nearly synonymous with democracy the world over.
