Shades of Sid Vicious, or that one guy from a UFC fight a few years back.  O_O

I pray he'll make the best possible recovery.

Damn, haven't seen it, but it sounds Louisville-level bad.

2014-08-02 12:30:31 AM
He was going after a layup and his leg planted on the basket stanchion.

His leg looked like it snapped mid-calf and the part below the break was flat with the floor.  His leg looked like the letter L.

2014-08-02 12:30:48 AM
Oh my god. That's a horrific injury. Definitely on the level of Kevin Ware's break. If he ever plays again, it won't be for a long time.

To me the still is worse than the video, because in motion you can just hope maybe he just rolled his ankle and it looked worse than it was. But when you see the still you can hear Obi-Wan say "That's no ankle..."

That's a potential career ender.

Disappointing for Pacer fans, and for the NBA.  He is truly one of the best two-way players out there, and a very exciting player to watch.

Why do NBA teams even let this happen? Nobody cares about international basketball tournaments here, even the Olympics is pointless, we've already kicked a ton of ass there and have the best league in the world.

All it does is open up your best players to injury after they just played long seasons. Which didn't work out very well for Yao's longevity,

I had a similar fracture in January and I'm still on crutches. My doctor said this thing takes 2 years until your leg is right again. I don't assume he'll be back next season unless it's not as bad as it looks.

Ask baseball why they let it happen. Or rather, don't, because they're still under the impression that the Olympics will let them back in annnnnnnny day now and resume tolerating a tournament full of college players because it's the middle of July and MLB organizations won't even let the rookie-ball guys go.

Not much scares me, but these injuries are pure nightmare fuel.

Literally.  Willis McGahee's knee injury in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl gave me nightmares for weeks.  I feel weak even just typing it.

Ohh that was the worst.  I was in high school helping my half-brother and his then wife move and got to my best friend's house for the watch party about 5 minutes before that happened.

This is certainly up there though.

I've seen a few being a fan of MMA, but the Anderson Silva one wasn't that long ago, and it's probably the one you're thinking of.

Link Not safe for people who don't want to see a broken leg.

Amazingly, that happened last December, and he's looking to fight again at the end of January.

Branding.

Why do players do it?

Branding.

Why do teams/agents let their players do it?

Branding.

The NBA has been making a huge international push for years now and this is part of it. Want your best players to become popular all over the world? Let them play in some international competition where everyone can see them on a different stage.

My leg hurts after watching that. I'm glad I didn't catch it live; I saw the Ware incident on television as it happened, and I really didn't want to see something like that again.

/Saw Chris Kuper's ankle incident as well

farking brutal, it really sucks when this happens. Paul George was an up and coming superstar and now his career might be over before it really takes off. It took Livingston years to get back in the league.

That one still gives me chills too. To see the leg get bent in those ways is just so, so scary. If I remember right, they showed the replay of it several times during the game.

Yeah, I looked at it and the first time I thought the same thing, that he rolled the ankle. It's a real shame, and I think more NBA owners will be listening to Mark Cuban's opinions on letting pros in these tournaments (he doesn't want it).

It can be fixed, but it may be 3 years before hes nba ready.

Well that sucks.  I hope he plays again, and soon.  But those injuries are really, really bad for athletes that put so much stress and demand on the lower legs.

I was really hoping to see how the Bulls would stack up against Indy this year -- assuming Indy could get some of their personality issues in order.  But with this loss of George and the FA loss of Stephenson... yeah, lottery pick city.

/and thank the basketball gods it wasn't DRose this time

Al MIchaels pretty much said, "oh shiat cut away!!" after McGahee's floppy leg replay. nasty.

Hopefully all the talking heads who were biatching about Love skipping the FIBA World Cup of Who Gives a Shiat are punching themselves in the balls this morning for being stupid. If that was his leg snapped like a twig, I'm guessing he wouldn't be quite so desirable in Cleveland or in line for a big contract.

I don't blame anyone for not playing in this exhibition shiat. Olympics, yeah maybe you play for the honor of it. But this crap is pointless and it's not a smart career move to risk your body to beat the likes of Puerto Rico and Slovenia in basketball.

You saw this shiat all over the ESPN message boards about Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Love. People acting like competing for the US in the FIBA World Championships is akin to storming Normandy.

Like guys aren't going to be practicing and playing during the summer anyway?  Its not like he injured himself due to excessive wear.

Sportscenter's explaining why players play for the national teams: essentially, they have an agreement with FIBA that, unless there's a pre-existing injury, the teams aren't allowed to stop the players from playing for their national teams. They literally do not have the authority to hold them back. (If they were, I guarantee you that the NBA would do it, and pressure the NCAA to do it, to such a degree that you'd basically have to haul people out of the stands to field a national team.)

A guy on my beer league hockey team did that a few years back. He was "mostly back to normal" about a year and a half later. Took him two or three years to put the skates back on.

Yeah, this just made things a bit easier in the East. Kevin Love on the Cavs will be tough, but not a lot of depth there and certainly not the defense that Indy could put in front of you.

The fact is he is just as likely to get hurt in an early season NBA game. Playing a few extra games doesn't significantly up the odds of a season ending injury.
