We're coming up on 20 years since the Estonia sank for similar reasons.

Maybe they were testing the scuppers. My compliments to the designer.

Eh.. Was in no real danger from the water on the deck. It's is a ferry so that deck is usually packed with cars and trucks.

thanks subby, you are spot on. Technically its called "pooping" or being swamped by the stern

I wasnt really worried about the reserve bouyancy here as much as the free surface effect.

thinking about it, maybe having the bow ramp down helped limber her.

Looks like Chile someplace - long swells

Water on the deck is like loose cargo.

Yeah, but I might object to my car getting a good dose of sea water.

Nice to see no one in the vid wearing a life jacket, almost had a bunch of dead folks when the bow pitched. Machismo kills.

Nice videography. Had this guy been at Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963, we'd have some fine images of a wood fence. If he'd been at Lakehurst New Jersey in 1937, we'd know exactly what a pine-barren looks like. Fortunately, he was on duty here, so we could compare an empty dry ferry with a completely swamped one.

Free surface effect, minimized by such a short beam.

Scuppers worked.

Nice surf break, nobody there, must be waaaaaay down south.

Always nice to see random life rings in the water.

Looks to me like they were transporting the boat up river to where it was going to spend it's life on flat water. I doubt the ramp goes any further. It also was probably in little danger. The ship was plenty buoyant, all that water wasn't entering the ship, it just washed the deck.

It will be once they get the fat billboard-sized bastard that was in front of the camera off the boat.

Having the ramp part way down may have saved their bacon. They got swamped over the side rails, from the rear, and a fair amount of the water continued out over the front. If it all bunched up at the gate they would have pitched nose down further than they did.

Congratulations, subby. You win 'the most underwhelming video of the week' award. And honorable mention for 'way WAY too long video'.

Watching it again, I see that the life ring is theirs, swept from the starboard bow.  Props to them for keeping it throwable.

Not until literally a minute ago. And yes it was better than the one in this thread.
