So it's wrong because there were only 1/3rd of the Parliment members were around for a vote which doesn't satisfy the need for a quorum not because it's you know, just plain old wrong?

Meh, I'll take it as a temporary victory and throw a preemptory fark-you to the fundies in the US who encouraged this shiat.

What is aggravated homosexuality, anyway? Anal without lube? Poking at someone's butthole while saying "I'm not farking you, I'm not farking you" until your mom tells you to stop?

Legalized aggravated homosexuality?  What's next, legalizing aggravated mopery?  WHEN WILL IT END?

There's just something hilarious about a black man in a powder wig.  Colonialism I guess.

This is great news though. Even as a technicality. I doubt it's going to change the hostile environment, but hopefully there will be some more protection over there.

Those people farking disgust me. They know they've lost the battle in the US but hey if we can get some african gays killed for who they are that's pretty cool.

They are beyond contemptible.

Aggravated homosexuality is when my best friend couldn't fit in his RAV-4 because his Halloween dress made him too fat for the front seat. We had to put the front seat all the way forward and stuff him in the right rear passenger seat, all the while making sure he didn't break his nails that he'd just spent like 80 bucks on. Dear god, it was an ordeal. THAT is aggravated homosexuality. The fact that somebody didn't end up killed that night is a miracle.

Oh - you mean the compromise position of the Kill the Gays Bill?  The one that was supported and lobbied for and partially written by the Family Research Council and Jim Inhofe (R-OK, likes to brag how much time he spends in Uganda)?  That one?

Yeah - it's not legalized to be gay in Uganda, subs.  The Constitutional Court said they passed it without a quorum, so it's not actually passed.  They'll just bring it to a vote again, with a quorum.  Possibly, a version closer to the original, which was the GODDAMN DEATH PENALTY FOR BEING GAY.

/Fark you, fundamentalists

Yes, I'm well aware that they voided it because of a technicality rather than because locking up gay people for the high crime of being gay is heinously immoral. I'm also aware that the original bill would execute gay people for the high crime of being gay which is even more heinously immoral.

The illegal act of the Speaker tainted the process

Now just because you don't like what the Speaker did doesn't mean you have to make homosexual innuendo at his expense.

Nah, I didn't misunderstand. I just wanted to clarify that I really did know what caused the law to get thrown out and just deliberately misinterpreted it to get a cleaner headline.

One would hope it's a little like the U.S. Supreme court, where they ruled on Prop. 8 not by stating it's right or wrong, but by stating those trying to defend it didn't have standing.  So they avoided addressing the underlying issue by ruling on a technicality.

The Court in Uganda might not be interested in directly wading into the issue unless they absolutely have to (not to mention that they might fear for their lives).

The fact that the Uganda Parliament didn't get a quorum suggests that whoever's in charge of running the votes may not have been certain they'd have the votes with the full body. There are a lot of disclaimers in that sentence for a reason, of course, but when parliamentary shenanigans are required to get a a particular outcome, it's a sign there is something hinky going on,

The court isn't condoning homosexuality...it merely found there was a procedural problem with the legislature passing the law.  They will correct that problem.

This - when things get forced through a democratic body during periods of short attendance, it is very often because the proponents knew they couldn't get what they wanted from the full body.
