Good music since Memorial Day.

Distorted Harmony - Chain Reaction

I kind of want summer to end due to this and the other three songs being all that's played anywhere.

Other than turn down for what. That one can stay. I can't turn down for that

The last song that I can really remember hearing absolutely EVERYWHERE during the summer was Naughty By Nature's O.P.P.

Blaring from every automobile everywhere in Brooklyn all summer 24/7 and I never really ever get tired of it.

Christ typing that made me feel old.

Hey, first things first, she's the realest!

Yeah, I know.  And the blonde cheerleader look kind of threw me as well.

My song of the summer from 1983.
I was 21. And yes....I am out there in the audience with friends.
No fights, no guns, no meathead and ghetto thug culture.
Damn those were good days.
Yea...get off my lawn

I would suggest that "We are Young" by FUN had the same effect a couple of years ago.

There have been plenty of good songs made since 1996, they just don't get (much) commercial airplay.

Back in the day, hit of the summer meant "Sugar Ray's newest attempt to fight off obscurity."

Stevie Ray Vaughn died in 1990.

It's just like every other summer. 10 songs get 90% of the air time. It's how pop radio works.

Personally, my car stereo is busted, the only thing that works on it is the radio. I hop around a lot, and don't mind pop songs.

Eh, it's an ok song, but it's not really poppy to be a great summer song.

thecpt: Other than turn down for what. That one can stay. I can't turn down for that

That is a much better summer song, as it is much more full of energy. But the beat is a bit too hard for a true "song of the summer".

The Singing Bush: Do you not remember Get Lucky from last summer?

Now that's a farking summer song.

I know Fark hates pop music, but my faves for this summer are: "Timber" w/ Ke$ha and Pitbull (even though I hate Pitbull usually), "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo, and "Counting Stars" by OneRepublic. I have a few others I would nominate, but they're more from the fall/winter.

YMMV

There's one part of her that isn't small. Hence her approval from the "American Gangsta" set.

When I first heard the song I thought it was Eve, with Gwen Stefani.  Watched the video, and thought wtf?

Maybe that's why it's such a hit,  people thinking it's Decently talented artists.   Or at least getting away with sounding like talent.

The fit blonde who works her mouth to act as if she's not singing every note through her nose? That's "decently talented" now?

OW! What did I just trip on? Oh, it's the bar. It seems somebody set it ridiculously low.

Crewmannumber6: Good music is made all the time, but the masses never hear it because they've been weened on dreck.

Or people like different things. I love pop music because it's full of energy. I personally don't give a crap about the technical aspects of music or whether a person has perfect pitch; if it's fun I'll listen to it. Same with rap, ska, and pop-punk. I'm sure you'd hate what I listen to.

I clicked on a few of your links. IMHO, it's perfect music for a coma and some country, which I detest. I'm sure they're very talented but it's not my wheelhouse. I don't fault you for liking it, it's just not my thing.

"Good music" is very subjective, and people need to stop worrying about what others like so much.

2014-08-01 01:36:52 PM
There really is only one summertime song and it has been around longer then most of you.
