She wouldn't happen to be a retired balloon vendor, would she?

TFA: Channelview, Texas

Well, that explains a lot of things.

And she's pointing a gun at construction workers on adjacent land because of the noise.  They're not trying to take her house.  From the article, she was apparently offered to be bought out by someone and turned them (whoever) down.  There's no indication that anyone is coming after her.

"I knew she was going to be on the news eventually," said neighbor Ralph King.
...
"She's hard to get along with," said King. "It's her way or no way."

Finally, an honest neighbor! None of this "she was quiet and kept to herself" or "she seemed nice enough" twaddle. Just the unvarnished truth.

Of course ol' Ralph may have an axe to grind, too, but recent events seem to support his position.

She's not holding out from selling to a real estate development, subby. She's holding out from selling to barge-making companies, who are all around her. So basically, she's not willing to leave her home in the middle of an industrial park, or put up with the understandable noise from neighboring properties. Crazy old bat.

"She just doesn't want to sell," said King. "Her husband built that house. That's where she wants to stay."

Maybe the construction company could offer to move the house.

If no charges were filed then does she get to keep her gun to do it again?  It seems like it would be best for public safety to charge her and at least take away her gun rights. I'm not saying to send her to prison but you can't let someone get away with things like this just because of their age.

THIS. I'm sick of old people getting a blank cheque to do whatever the fark they want. It clearly stems from the old "respect your elders" trope that has permeated society since time immemorial. The simple fact is that, in the modern world, living into your 80s/90s is not that farking impressive, and does not require any sort of wisdom or sage qualities. There are no apex predators to avoid; no enemy tribes committing massacres; no plagues of transmissible disease sweeping through east Texas.  You have not earned my respect simply by  living a long time. Respect is earned by being a decent, respectful person yourself.

If a black guy in his 20s pointed a shotgun at construction crews and police he'd be in prison for multiple life sentences.

I don't care if the old person is just senile and confused, or an actual, dangerous, angry old entitled coot (which seems to be the case here). Lock them up. A home, an asylum, a prison - I don't give a shiat. You don't get to threaten people with shotguns just because you're a little old lady mad about some noise.

Ok, imagine old leather work gloves. That have been used far longer than they should have. They are dry, rough, and likely to cause blisters, and so loose you can fit your whole hand in with ease.

She's a crazy old bat who was pointing guns at people. Cuffing her makes it a lot harder for her to nut up and start flailing claws at people. She's a lot less likely to get hurt if she's cuffed.

Firstly, yeah, this is pretty much what someone from the south means when they say you'll be 'on the news'.  It means you're either crazy in a borderline dangerous way or they think you're a criminal and particularly inept at hiding it.  Not really any positive connotations on that bit of idiom.

Secondly, news about Texas from a station in Norfolk, VA?  Seems a little indirect, subby, couldn't be arsed with the 20 seconds it takes to grab a local source?

Thirdly, it's a fairly common name where I grew up, so you'd think I'd eventually stop snickering every time I hear the name 'Adcock'.  You would be incorrect.

//Adcock.  Heh.

You have a problem with restraining a violent person who was being arrested for threatening complete strangers who weren't even on her property with lethal force while armed?

Jesus, bro, I'm not a huge fan of the police either but you're expecting them to be trusting to the level of complete idiocy there.

Guilty_plea_bargain: Just because she is 90, no charges are expected to be filed. Lock this old geezer up.

No.  She's upset, and I'd say she has a right to be if they were damaging her property, which they probably were since she was holding out on selling to them.

Now, this doesn't call for a shotgun, so she needs to have the gun taken away.  But that doesn't mean she needs to be charged with a crime.

And the cops need to take a hard look at any noise ordinances, and start hitting the construction crews with fines if they're breaking them - as in, if that bulldozer is even 1db over the limit, fine them every time the engine starts.  And if they do any damage to her property, arrest them for criminal damage to private property.  It's not like she moved in next to an airport, this stuff came to her, and the law needs to protect her - which it very likely wasn't doing.

In the picture she's disarmed and escorted by two cops hat look to be about twice her size and about a quarter of her age, not to mention male. I think they could have reigned her in by simply cuffing her hands in the front.
You have to be a special kind of pussy to be afraid of her at that point.

I didn't realize the illiterate can still find a way to log onto Fark. Clem's not complaining about the arrest. He's complaining about the cuffing behind the back.

I'd suggest a reading course but perhaps one of those books that read themselves for you would be a better choice.
