I know, right?  I'd never heard of a car catching fire before Tesla came along.

Which explains why the stock is up about $7 today...

A couple of thoughts:

-Their profits are down because they're investing in new markets and R&D.  That's good.

-Their market cap is outrageously overvalued.  That's bad.

-Their stocks were down around 1% according to TFA.  That's not "fail."

1% is noise. The rest of the article is filler.

On the day Saddam Hussein was captured, Bloomberg terminals announced that US Treasuries were up because of it. Then down because of it. Then up again because of the capture. This article could just as easily go the other way with a few choice edits. This article was being published today even if Russia had nuked someone by accident.

There's a documentary on the AMC Pacer on youtube somewhere.

The Pacer actually got rave reviews when it debuted.

The problem was everyone who wanted one bought one the first or second year of production.

I hope Tesla understands this and adjusts price points or just makes them fall apart in a couple of years.

I know, right?  I'd never heard of early production models of cars being more unreliable before Tesla came along.

My advice to Tesla stands: make a pickup truck.

The thing is, the folks at Bloomberg and the like have to attribute things to direct causes in their news bites.  So they're constantly saying "X" happened because of "Y" when there is usually at best a tenuous connection between X and Y.  They're throwing darts at a board in terms of looking for causes of market moves.

I may actually take a look at the Model X when it comes out in 2015. Plenty of time to think about, wait and see how things shake out.

I'm buying a Tesla (or other all electric car) as soon as I finish medical school.

Oh, geez. It's possible to try to use less petroleum products without trying to be independent from them.

/the stock seems to be doing ok to me.
