Well, it's Foley's second bite at the apple and it looks like he shot himself in the foot starting off.

Christ, what an asshole.

2014-07-31 05:01:28 PM
Just reading Tom Foley's responses...

Dear God, he is literally a perfect caricature of the ultra-wealthy tycoon who is so completely disconnected from reality, he can't even hold a conversation without coming across as 1000% condescending.

Even Romney had more personality than that.

2014-07-31 05:07:05 PM
Mark Bergman, the spokesman for the Malloy campaign, had come to defend the governor. But when the news conference finally ended, Bergman just smiled, shook his head and told reporters he had nothing to add.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is slitting his own throat.

"You apparently don't have the business experience to understand," Foley said.

That's some fine Randsplaining right there.

"I have never closed a mill down, sir. I didn't close the Bibb mill.  A subsequent owner closed it. So, please get your facts right," Foley said.

Okay, riiiiight.

So you never closed it but your investment firm allegedly bled cash from the floundering Bibb mill then once you'd wrung every cent you could out them you dumped it off on some sucker under whom it goes completely bankrupt.

That's completely different.

Compare that to these guys who've been making 6 years of concessions to keep their business afloat with help from the state that this guy calls "a waste of taxpayer dollars" including those who are now trying to get a group together buy the company themselves.

This guy is Romney-lite.

Do not want.

2014-07-31 05:43:41 PM
Wow- he's blaming a local Selectwoman for this business failing.

I'm pretty sure "selectman" is a New England thing, so I'll explain: They get to ride in the Old Home Day's Parade and vote on School Bonds. They don't have anything to do with the town budget.

2014-07-31 05:51:47 PM
Was this the guy who was trying to bang congressional pages?

2014-07-31 06:33:27 PM
"The plant's closing. One hundred and forty jobs are leaving the community. What more do I need to know to come here and talk about it and talk about the failure of Gov. Malloy's policies?" Foley said. "That's all I need."

And this pretty well is going to be what he is summed up by. "I don't need to know the facts, or the history, because I've already decided who to blame things on, because it fits my personal narrative. Facts just get in the way of narrative."

This is a man who is bitter as f*ck about losing his Gubernatorial bid, and is insulted that he has to Primary against others. He feels it is his right, since he lost the last go around, that he should have a rematch. And the more he keeps this tripe up, the more he damages the party and his state. There isn't a feeling of duty here, no call to public service, he's owed the Governor's seat, and woe betide anyone who gets in his way...

Yeah it's a real shock that a paper mill goes out of business. Those awful workers, supporting paperless offices...

THIS. Surprised one of those workers didn't knock his ass out.

Oh, this should be good for Dem fundraising. The man had no idea of what he was talking about. He just had his talking points, and he repeated them. At no point did he visibly comprehend that there was anything but his party line to tow.

I certainly hope the citizens of Connecticut leave this unrepentant asshole by the curb.

2014-07-31 07:01:35 PM
I need to see if he's coming around my part of the state any time soon. I have a few ways I could easily try and embarrass him with.

Mentat: "You apparently don't have the business experience to understand," Foley said.

He's right. It is complicated ruining a business for profit.

First, you find a company to buy (oldcorp)

Then, you do a "leveraged buyout" which makes whatever you paid for the company into debt on the company (newcorp)

The company will never make another dime of profit because all of it's bottom line goes to paying back the loan you created to buy it in the first place.

You folks should leave this to the professionals.

A sociopath CEO who only sees dollar amounts and not the human lives affected by closing factories? And then blames the workers for efficient capitalism? Who saw that coming?

It's a shame that the Democratic incumbent Dan Malloy is so incompetent. Foley shouldn't be tied with him, and yet, he is.

No, that was MARK Foley.

You know, the Democrat.

/according to FNC, anyway

I've said this about other states, I'll say the same thing about CT. If we re-elect Malloy or elect Foley, we deserve what we get. Sad, but true.

At least I'm glad Linda McMahon (of the WWE) isn't running.

Dear god, I hated that woman and the constant ads she put up everywhere. She spent something like 60 million dollars of her money on her last campaign, blanketing the entire state. I can't even get away from her when I unhooked the cable and stopped listening to radio, because she had campaign trucks with big ass speakers slowly driving through my neighborhood telling me to vote for her at random times of the day.

God, she made me abandon 95.1 for goddam WHUD. I couldn't take the ads practically every commercial break throughout the day. And now there's some very angry sounding woman talking about how Republicans have a good chance to defeat Malloy, but I only hear those maybe twice a day, so I just change the channel briefly. Something about Penny Bacchiochi screwing up their chances or something?

Unfortunately, he's got a real shot in CT, and would certainly be better than if the R's ran Linda McMahon again.  It's unfortunate that Malloy was such a disappointment.

I'm at ground zero for maximum Linda McMahon, being around the Greenwich-Stamford area.

Quiet taker!

Business does well? The job makers did that! Give them tax breaks to spend abroad in tax havens unrelated to the community they exploit!

Business fails? That's the takers and govts fault! Strip it for parts, move it to a country without labor laws, and cut their taxes!

Because fark you, that's why! Stupid poors, deciding not to be born rich enough to rape the global economy.

If that was SC wouldn't he be crowned Governor on the spot? Red states tend to venerate these guys, no? The electorate apparently think they're all one scratch-off away from being a 1%er so GOP good or something along those lines?

"It's a fundamental axiom of business. If the equipment is worth more than what they are earning on the equipment and the labor, it's a failing operation,"

That is an axiom of vulture capitalism, not a well regulated free market, and anyone espousing it is a piece of sh8t. This man is happiest when jobs are lost.
