I'm stunned by the disarray and incompetence of this. The GOP House leadership is usually in so much control!

what would have been stunning is them pulling off the vote as scheduled.  Ted Cruz is the GOP leader, and has been since the debt ceiling debacle.

Is anybody actually surprised by this? They couldn't even pass an uncontroversial transportation bill last year because they couldn't get the votes for it.

At this point, I doubt any member of the House GOP would be capable of passing a stool, even after eating a gallon of spoiled chili and washing it down with a gallon of prune juice and coffee.

They did however, agree to waste taxpayer money to sue the president, in an effort to make him look bad.

I find it more than stupid for them to sue him to make him look bad. He does that quite easy without being sued.

Funny line from Chait:

John Boehner had a plan to address the border crisis: The House would pass an extremely right-wing bill, then it would leave town and blame the Senate for failing to pass its bill. This is Boehner's plan for addressing every crisis, basically. But then the thing that always happens to Boehner's plans happened again today.

Ted Cruz   met with the core group of House Republicans who vote against every bill and explained to them that since this is a bill, they should vote against it. Then Boehner had no idea whether his bill could pass. Then he went to the House floor. Then he pulled it.

Obama should mega-troll them here:  Have a $3B coin minted, deposit it in the treasury, then tell Boehner he's free to use as much of it as he wants for as much immigration reform as he wants.

XD

They have to appease the paranoid xenophobes who populate most of their base while ensuring labor remains cheap. It's a tricky balancing act.

What good does it do to punt when you can just add time to the clock? The rumor is that the House is going to postpone their recess until they pass this bill.

/my prediction is they never pass it at all

I have to point out, half the country didn't vote for them. Going by the numbers, they Pub lost in all three branches. Unfortunately, between gerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement, they managed to hold on to the House.

But, that's no excuse if the Dems can't hold the Senate and make gains on the House this fall. These assholes have been coming out of the woodwork to visibly be more evil than each other.

My favorite part of yesterday's Washington Post article:

The House Republican border measure would make it easier for the U.S. government to deport Central American minors who have entered the United States illegally and would provide $659 million in additional funding to federal agencies through the end of the fiscal year. The funding is significantly less than the $3.7 billion that Obama requested and less than the $1.5 billion initially floated by Boehner and his allies earlier this month.

Basically, Obama asked for $3.7B, and after much discussion the Republicans eventually agreed to provide $1.7B. Then the Republicans changed their mind and decided to only provide $0.7B. Now they've changed their mind again, and are only offering... nothing. Of course, they can't even agree with each other on what kind of nothing. On top of all that, they voted yesterday to sue Obama if he dares to do anything on his own.

But somehow this is all Obama's fault.

Thanks, Obama.

Well, yes. If they would just do EVERYTHING the Republicans want, then there wouldn't be any gridlock, would there?

/sadly, I'm pretty sure this is how a good number of Republicans actually think

2014-07-31 07:29:40 PM
I love McCarthy's statement that this is within Obama's power to fix unilaterally after literally yesterday posting a laying sing him for acting unilaterally.

The sad thing is a lot of people won't even blink at accepting both of those truths at face value.
